• 10th Annual Passport to Kennedy: Sept. 3-7 at Kennedy Seniors' Recreation Centre, 11760 88th Ave. Do you want to create lasting friendships and memories? Want to feel more energetic? Are you 50 years of age or older? Come experience the warmth and excitement of Kennedy during our 10th Annual Passport to Kennedy, where all society drop-in activities are free! Kennedy is your place to connect, make friends and keep your body and mind moving. Café Eighty-Ate will be open Tuesday to Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., serving delicious sandwiches, soups, salads and tasty baked goods. • Ready, Set, Pull!: Sept. 7, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Mackie Park, 10900 82th Ave. Delta is inviting everyone who lives, works or plays in our city to volunteer for our Community Weed Pull events. Amazing progress has been made and we hope to continue the trend. Why is ivy being removed? Check out the video "Invasive Species - English Ivy" on YouTube. Snacks, gloves, equipment, and training will be provided, so even if you have never done a weed pull before, you are more than welcome to come! Community weed pulls are an awesome way for you to learn about our natural ecosystems and take an active role in their protection. • Earthwise Society’s 12th Annual Heirloom Tomato Festival: Sept. 7, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Earthwise Society Demonstration Garden and Farm, 6400 3rd Ave., Tsawwassen. It’s back! Celebrate the heirloom tomato in all its glory at the Earthwise Garden in Boundary Bay, where you’ll find a variety of stunning heirloom tomatoes to sample and purchase. The talented chefs from Las Catrinas Mexican Cuisine will again be serving up tasting plates featuring authentic Mexican cuisine with a tomato twist. Coastal Olive Oils will also be showcasing their fine olive oils and vinegars as the perfect compliment to fresh tomatoes. And remember to drop by the Earthwise Farm Cart, which will be brimming with fresh Earthwise fruits and veggies. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind community celebration! • Day at the Farm: Sept. 7, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Westham Island Herb Farm, 4690 Kirkland Rd. Come join us for a fun-filled Day At The Farm presented by Delta Farmland and Wildlife Trust. Get ready for a day of fresh air, sunshine and farm adventures. Learn about farming in Delta on a guided hay-wagon farm tour and watch the plow horses as farmers demonstrate what it took to plow a field before we had tractors. Let the kids get their hands dirty digging their own potatoes for dinner, take a break to enjoy the music of Thorn and Sparrow, grab a bite from one of the food trucks and take in a mini auction called by Ian Paton. • Luminary Festival: Sept. 7, 6 p.m. to 10 pm. at Sunstone Park, 10400 Delsom Cres., North Delta. The Luminary Festival is a special, sparkling, end-of-summer event! Illuminate yourself with costume and lights, and create a lantern to light the way. Join the City of Delta at this free annual community festival for an evening of magical light displays, entertainment, lantern making, food vendors and interactive activities. Though there is no parking on site, free parking and shuttle service will run between North Delta Recreation Centre and Sunstone Park starting at 6 p.m. The bus will have room for walkers, wheelchairs and scooters, and be equipped with an automatic lift. • Pet Therapy Visit: Sept. 9, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre, 11760 88th Ave. Join us for a free pet therapy visit! This is a great opportunity to bring about smiles and laughter. Some of the reported benefits of pet therapy include reducing stress, anxiety, blood pressure and feelings of loneliness. • Run for Delta: Sept. 22, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the North Delta Track & Field Facility, 11496 83rd Ave. Let's lace up our sneakers and hit the pavement for a fun run in support of two remarkable organizations: Delta Hospital & Community Health Foundation, and the Surrey Food Bank (which also serves North Delta). Come join us for a fun 1K walk or 3K run —whether you're a seasoned runner or just looking for a casual jog, this event is perfect for all levels. Enjoy the fresh air, meet new friends, and challenge yourself to reach new goals. • Delta Ukulele Circle: First Saturday of the month (rescheduled this month to Sept. 14), 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.; North Delta Centre for the Arts, 11425 84th Ave.; Led by Gary Cyr, the Delta Ukulele Circle is an enthusiastic, welcoming and supportive crowd of music lovers with an appreciation for the ukulele. • PWRUP – AC/DC Tribute Band: Sept. 21, 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at North Delta Centre for the Arts, 11425 84th Ave. Kick off the City of Delta's Fall Music Series with an electrifying night of music in North Delta. PWRUP is a Canadian tribute act dedicated to embodying the rock n’ roll prowess of AC/DC. Since 2019, the group’s curation of an authentic live music performance has transported their fans to AC/DC’s live sound of the 70s and 80s. PWRUP caters to AC/DC fans by providing a variety of the band’s earliest to most recent hits. Vocalist John Kairis bounces between the charismatic stylings of Bon Scott and the gut grinding power of Brian Johnson. Lead guitarist Colin Wielenga produces an electrifying experience for fans as Angus Young. • Schubertiade by the Academy Chamber Players: Oct. 15, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at North Delta Centre for the Arts, 11425 84th Ave. The City of Delta and the Vancouver Chamber Music Society are kicking off the 2024-2025 North Delta Matinée Concert Series with the talented Academy Chamber Players for an afternoon of extraordinary musical artistry and memorable moments. • Music of the Night: The Concert Tour: Oct. 20, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Genesis Theatre, 5005 45th Ave. Sound the Alarm: Music/Theatre brings this concert celebration of Andrew Lloyd Webber to Delta for the first time, after having now toured across Canada to sold out audiences from Victoria to Montreal. • Delta Thistle Curling Club Open House: Sept. 17-20, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at North Delta Recreation Centre, 11415 84th Ave. DTCC is once again kicking off the curling season with our always well-attended open house. Bring along your friends and family to introduce them to the game during free hourly drop-in sessions. Certified coaching and equipment will be provided; all you need to bring is warm clothes and clean running shoes. No registration is required and all ages and abilities are welcome — there's stick and wheelchair curling, and "Little Rockers" for kids, and representatives from our various leagues will be on hand as well. • Bat Talk & Walk (Tsawwassen): Sept. 17, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Tsawwassen Library and Boundary Bay Regional Park. Bats are very important animals that are feared and misunderstood by many. Come out for a night of adventure. The night will start with a presentation at Tsawwassen Library (6-7 p.m.) discussing general facts about bats, bat habitat, where the best locations are to watch bats at night, how to minimize a bat encounter if you have bats feeding or roosting on your property, and ways to support and help local bat populations. This presentation will be followed by a stroll through Boundary Bay Regional Park (7:30-8:30 p.m.; park at 12th Avenue/Beach Grove Road lot) where you will be able to watch and hear bats in their natural habitat. During the walk, we will discuss echolocation and how to safely watch bats. Come out for an extraordinary night of bat education and fun. Please wear close toed shoes, pants and long sleeves for the walk. • Blake Creek Fish Habitat Stewardship Workshop: Sept. 21-22, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Blake Creek in North Delta. The BC Wildlife Federation's Fish Habitat Restoration and Education program presents the 2024 Fish Habitat Stewardship Workshop, a free opportunity to get involved in your local community and learn valuable skills in stewardship of urban riparian areas. Join us to get hands-on experience with riparian planting, flexi baffles and building rock weirs alongside and in Blake Creek, a tributary to North Delta's most productive salmon stream, Cougar Creek. Learn from guest speakers about increasing fish habitat, fish identification and local restoration efforts to urban streams. This workshop will be two days and include interpretive walks, presentations and hands-on activities, and secondary students can earn volunteer hours. • Douglas J. Husband Discovery Centre Open House: Sept. 21, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 4450 Clarence Taylor Cres. Join the CIty of Delta at the Discovery Centre for our 2024 Open House! The day will feature presentations, gallery tours, partner booths, light refreshments, music and heritage games in our outdoor orchard.

HOBBIES/CRAFTS 

• Craft and Art Supply Swap: Sept. 21, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at George Mackie Library, 8440 112th St. Calling all crafters! Do you have unused or gently used craft supplies you’d like to donate? Bring them to the library between 1 and 2 p.m., then swap with other crafters between 2 and 4 p.m. We can only accept arts and crafts-related items. AUTHOR TALKS

• InkWellTold: Sept. 28, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at North Delta Centre for the Arts, 11415 84th Ave. In partnership with Delta Literary Arts Society and the City of Delta, InkWellTold is a free quarterly reading-in-conversation series where two guest writers and a host converse on a pre-selected topic, with plenty of opportunities for audience members to ask questions and interact with the host and speakers. This fall's event will feature USA Today bestselling author Laurel Greer, who writes about all the ways love can change people for the better, especially when messy families and charming small towns are involved. • September Square Dance Dinner Social: Sept. 28, 4:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Kennedy Seniors' Recreation Centre, 11760 88th Ave. Bring out your western garb as we learn to square dance with the help of caller Tyler Wagner. Our menu will be salad, chili and buns with dessert, all thanks to our own Café 88. HEALTH/WELLNESS 

• Yin Yoga: Every Monday, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Deltassist, 9097 120th St.; The main goal of Yin Yoga is to open joints, stretch deep tissue and release deep, long held emotion. In Yin Yoga we learn how to better listen to our bodies, by allowing ourselves to slow down enough to listen to the clues from the unconscious mind of what is actually going on we learn everything we need to know. Note: You will want to have a few pillows (couch, bed or throw pillows will work fine), as well as a blanket or two to ensure you are nice and comfy as well as fully supported for your practice.
