• City Nature Challenge 2025: April 25-28, anywhere/everywhere. For the fourth year in a row, the City of Delta will be participating in the City Nature Challenge. Help us to explore, discover and share the incredible biodiversity found in Delta by observing nature all around us — birds, bats, butterflies, molluscs, trees, shrubs, ferns and more! Participation is easy: simply visit iNaturalist.org and create an account, join the City of Delta's project at https://inaturalist.ca/projects/city-nature-challenge-2025-metro-vancouver-regional-district-mvrd, and make observations of a wild animal, plant or fungus from April 25-28. Observations can be uploaded directly through your phone, or uploaded on your computer through May 4.
• Open Stage: Last Friday of the month (April 25), 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at North Delta Centre for the Arts, 11425 84th Ave. Entertain and be entertained! Share the stage with a variety of singers, musicians, poets, actors and dancers in this intergenerational monthly evening. Performing not your thing? Then sit back and enjoy the show! • Observation Walks with the Delta Naturalists: April 26 and 27, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., various locations. Participating in the City of Delta's City Nature Challenge? Why not let members of the Delta Naturalists take you on a nature walk to help look for species and make observations. On Saturday, April 26, observation walks will be held at Deas Island Regional Park (meet on the lawn by the rowing club) and in the Delta Nature Reserve (meet at the Planet Ice parking lot). On Sunday, April 27, come for a walk through Boundary Bay Regional Park (meet by the Centennial Beach washrooms). Walk-ins welcome, or register ahead of time by emailing cae@delta.ca.
• Voting Day: April 28, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The 45th Federal General Election will be held on Monday, April 28, with advance voting April 18-21. • 'Almost, Maine': April 29 to May 2, 6 p.m., at Sands Secondary, 10840 82nd Ave. Sands Theatre Company presents Almost, Maine by John Cariani. Welcome to Almost, Maine, a place that's so far north, it's almost not in the United States. It's almost in Canada. And it's not quite a town, because its residents never got around to getting organized. So it almost doesn't exist. One cold, clear, winter night, as the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, the residents of Almost find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend (almost) in this delightful midwinter night's dream. The New York Times calls Almost, Maine a "series of nine amiably absurdist vignettes about love, with a touch of good-natured magic realism...witty, romantic, unsentimental. A beautifully structured play, with nifty surprise endings (most but not all of them happy)." Preview performance is Tuesday, April 29, followed by nightly shows Wednesday, April 30; Thursday, May 1; and Friday, May 2. • 'Shrek: The Musical': April 30 and May 1-3, 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Seaquam Secondary, 11584 Lyon Rd. Seaquam Secondary School’s Theatre Company is excited to present another exciting adaptation of the eight-time Tony-nominated production, Shrek The Musical! They promise a show filled with groan-worthy puns, catchy songs, loveable characters and incredible choreography from this energetic cast. Shrek: The Musical is a classic retelling of the 2001 hit movie Shrek, starring Michael Myers as Shrek and Eddie Murphy as Donkey. Prepare to witness the zany antics of Shrek and Donkey in their pursuit to get Shrek’s swamp back by rescuing Princess Fiona from the evil Lord Farquaad, and watch as Shrek (Verjote Dhadwal), Donkey (Piper Minty), and Princess Fiona (Abigail Mak) discover the meaning of a chosen family and accepting yourself for your true colours. With book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abarie, original book by William Steig, and music composed by Jeanine Tesori, this upbeat, hilarious musical will be the perfect family outing. • Ladner May Days: May 23-25 at Memorial Park, 5010 47th Ave. Catch all the fun filled events and activities during Ladner May Days. Events are held all weekend at Memorial Park, just steps away from our historic Ladner Village. Ladner May Days is one of British Columbia's largest free family fairs, featuring live bands, free entertainment, a market, carnival rides, and a beer garden for the adults. The fair offers a wide variety of entertainment and activities for all ages, right in the heart of Ladner, including a "Musical Icons Through the Ages - from Adele to ZZ Top"-themed parade at noon on Sunday. • Vancouver Cello Quartet: May 6, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at North Delta Centre for the Arts, 11425 84th Ave. The City of Delta and Vancouver Chamber Music Society invite you to enjoy an afternoon of beautiful music by the Vancouver Cello Quartet in the final show the 2024/2025 North Delta Matinée Series. Formed in 2012, The Vancouver Cello Quartet is comprised of four dedicated professionals who perform original works and arrangements for cellos. This ensemble of classically trained players celebrates the unequalled sound of four cellos with the mission of creating an eclectic mix of repertoire for every concert, shaping the program according to each venue’s interests while maintaining our commitment to musical diversity. • Music in the Neighbourhood: May 17, 6:30 p.m. at North Delta Centre for the Arts, 11425 84th Ave. Please join us at our seventh free charitable concert performed by local children and youth (ages 5-18) on piano, violin, viola, cello, zither and guitar, and featuring a classical music repertoire and world-famous music. We will have both solo performance and ensembles, and many of our young musicians have studied music for over 10 years and finished RCM ARCT level. Admission is free, but we are raising funds for BC Children’s Hospital Foundation's Balding for Dollars program to help oncology kids fight cancer; your donation would be greatly appreciated. A concert pianist, educator and producer with two albums to her name, Sagalova fled Kharkiv in the early weeks of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and arrived in Vancouver in the summer of 2022. Described as “a brilliant pianist with a great vitality” by Vancouver International School of Music director Eugene Skovorodnikov, Sagalova is a laureate of a number of competitions in Italy, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Canada and Germany, and was granted the status of Honored Artist of Ukraine by former Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko for her achievements and contributions to Ukrainian culture. organization, based out of Delta and Agassiz, devoted to promoting sustainability through education and community initiatives. Join us for a guided tour of the South Delta grounds, where you'll explore the beautifully themed gardens. Discover the unique features of each garden, participate in an engaging activity,
and experience a therapeutic sense-based mindfulness exercise. To cap off your visit, enjoy a light lunch provided by the chef on site.
