• The Amazing Worlds of Bats: April 17, 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Douglas J Husband Discovery Centre, 4450 Clarence Taylor Cres. Bats are very important animals that are feared and misunderstood by many. This International Bat Appreciation Day, come out for a night of adventure, starting with a presentation discussing general facts about bats, bat habitat, where the best locations are to watch bats at night, how to minimize bat encounters if you have them feeding or roosting on your property, and ways to support and help local bat populations. This presentation will be followed by a stroll through Ladner Harbour Park from 8 to 9 p.m. where you will be able to watch and hear bats in their natural habitat. During the walk, we will discuss echolocation and how to safely watch bats. Come out for an extraordinary night of bat education and fun. Please wear close toed shoes, pants and long sleeves for the walk. And be sure to visit your local Fraser Valley Regional Library before the event to sign out a Bat Pack. • DRA All-Candidates Meeting: April 21, 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Northside Community Church, 11300 84th Ave. You are invited by the Delta Residents Association to an in-person all-candidates meeting for the federal riding of Delta on Monday, April 21st in North Delta. This is an opportunity for the community of Delta to meet the candidates and ask them questions about election-related issues. If you have questions to ask of the candidates, please email them to delta.residents@gmail.com by Friday, April 18. This will help us choose a variety of questions for the meeting.
• Introduction to Organic Gardening at Home: April 22, 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at George Mackie Library, 8440 112th St. Learn the ABC's of organic food gardening during this introduction to starting your own garden. In this workshop held in partnership with Earthwise Society, we will look at what organic gardening means. We will touch on concepts including soil health, environmental impacts, health benefits, garden design, crop selection and starting seeds at home.
• 'So You Are Writing a Novel' Online Circle: April 23, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. via Zoom. Writing a novel can be a lonely journey, but it doesn’t have to be! Drop-in to the Delta Literary Arts Society's "So You Are Writing a Novel," a supportive online writing circle where you can connect with fellow novelists to discuss process, ideas, successes and frustrations. This two-hour Zoom session includes 40 minutes of discussion and connection, and one hour and 20 minutes of focused, off-screen writing time. • Preparing for Kindergarten: Free Online Parent Workshop: April 23, 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. via Zoom. The Delta School District is hosting a free workshop for parents of children preparing to start kindergarten. • Music in the Neighbourhood: May 17, 6:30 p.m. at North Delta Centre for the Arts, 11425 84th Ave. Please join us at our seventh free charitable concert performed by local children and youth (ages 5-18) on piano, violin, viola, cello, zither and guitar, and featuring a classical music repertoire and world-famous music. We will have both solo performance and ensembles, and many of our young musicians have studied music for over 10 years and finished RCM ARCT level. A concert pianist, educator and producer with two albums to her name, Sagalova fled Kharkiv in the early weeks of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and arrived in Vancouver in the summer of 2022. Seaquam Secondary School’s Theatre Company is excited to present another exciting adaptation of the eight-time Tony-nominated production, Shrek The Musical! • City Nature Challenge 2025: April 25-28, anywhere/everywhere. For the fourth year in a row, the City of Delta will be participating in the City Nature Challenge. Help us to explore, discover and share the incredible biodiversity found in Delta by observing nature all around us — birds, bats, butterflies, molluscs, trees, shrubs, ferns and more! Participation is easy: simply visit iNaturalist.org and create an account, join the City of Delta's project at https://inaturalist.ca/projects/city-nature-challenge-2025-metro-vancouver-regional-district-mvrd, and make observations of a wild animal, plant or fungus from April 25-28. Observations can be uploaded directly through your phone, or uploaded on your computer through May 4.
• City Nature Challenge 2025: Observation Walks with the Delta Naturalists: April 26 and 27, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., various locations. Participating in the City of Delta's City Nature Challenge? Why not let members of the Delta Naturalists take you on a nature walk to help look for species and make observations. On Saturday, April 26, observation walks will be held at Deas Island Regional Park (meet on the lawn by the rowing club) and in the Delta Nature Reserve (meet at the Planet Ice parking lot). • Yin Yoga: Every Monday, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Deltassist, 9097 120th St. The main goal of Yin Yoga is to open joints, stretch deep tissue and release deep, long held emotion. In Yin Yoga we learn how to better listen to our bodies, by allowing ourselves to slow down enough to listen to the clues from the unconscious mind of what is actually going on we learn everything we need to know. Note: You will want to have a few pillows (couch, bed or throw pillows will work fine), as well as a blanket or two to ensure you are nice and comfy as well as fully supported for your practice.
