Two ceremonies to mark Remembrance Day in Delta on Nov. 11

On Nov. 11, people gather around the world to honour those who fought and died — and those who still serve — in all levels of the Canadian military, and Delta residents have two options for where to observe Remembrance Day this Monday.

In North Delta, the City of Delta in partnership with Kennedy Seniors Society is hosting its annual Remembrance Day ceremony at the North Delta Social Heart Plaza (11415 84th Ave.) starting at 10:40 a.m.

Every year, local residents, dignitaries, scouts, girl guides, cadets and more gather to pay tribute to all those who have served and the many who made the ultimate sacrifice before laying wreaths in front of the Memorial Wall. Refreshments will be served in the Main Hall at North Delta Recreation Centre immediately after the ceremony.

In South Delta, the City of Delta and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 61 are holding a ceremony at Ladner's Memorial Park (5010 47th Ave.).

The event begins at 10:30 a.m. with a five-block parade down Delta Street from Branch 61 (4896 Delta St.) to the cenotaph at Memorial Park, followed by a ceremony and wreath-laying until 11:30 a.m.

As well, the Delta Concert Band is playing two shows this weekend to mark Remembrance Day.

On Saturday (Nov. 9), the band and the Vancouver Orpheus Male Choir are coming together for a joint concert at Seaquam Secondary (11584 Lyon Rd.) to commemorate Remembrance Day. Tickets for the "We Remember" concert, which runs from 3 to 5 p.m., are $27.96 for adults, $17.31 for students and free for kids 12 and under, available at the door and online at eventbrite.ca/e/we-remember-remembrance-commemoration-nov-9-tickets-1013149656897.

On Remembrance Day proper, Delta Concert Band and the Vancouver Welsh Men's Choir and the Delta Concert Band for a poignant "Lest We Forget" concert at South Delta Baptist Church (1988 56th St.) from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., with a 15-minute intermission. This annual event pays homage to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in conflicts past and present, while celebrating the indomitable spirit of civilians who have endured the hardships of war.

"Join us for an evening of remembrance, reflection, and powerful music as we honour the brave and resilient individuals who have shaped our world through their sacrifices. This concert promises to be a moving tribute to the human spirit in the face of adversity," reads the event ticketing website.

Tickets area $35 for adults/seniors, $10 for youth 18 and under, and available at myzonetickets.com/e/254167/lest-we-forget-2. Seating is unreserved, allowing attendees to choose their preferred spots upon arrival.
