A suspect in two unprovoked stranger assaults in Surrey last week has been arrested and charged.

Surrey Police Service had previously issued a call for information in an assault at a business in the 6400 block of 120 Street on Sunday, Feb. 9, just before 11:30 a.m.

Police officers arrived and found that two men had been assaulted — one physically, and one with a weapon — and the suspect had left the scene.

The victim who was physically assaulted was treated on scene by BC Health Emergency Services workers, while the other victim was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to an earlier police media release.

A new SPS press release on Sunday, Feb. 16 says the police service's Serious Crimes Team was able to identify and locate the suspect, who was arrested in Delta on Feb. 15 with the assistance of the Delta Police Department and the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team.

The suspect, whose name is not currently being released, has been remanded into custody and has been charged with one count each of assault with a weapon and aggravated assault.
