Delta’s Cultural Services department is currently hosting a pair of art exhibits, one highlighting works made by city staff.
Now through April 15 at the Douglas J. Husband Discovery Centre (4450 Clarence Taylor Cres.), the “City of Delta Artists” exhibition showcases pieces from emerging and established artists — who also happen to work for the city — in a wide array of mediums.
“We invited artists who work with the City of Delta to submit pieces for display in this exhibition. We were delighted to receive interest from a wide array of departments from Engineering to Parks, Recreation & Culture, and [Delta Fire and] Emergency Services,” reads a description in the city’s December Cultural Services newsletter.
“From sketches to photography to fibre arts, we have something that will appeal to a wide range of tastes,” the description says. ”We hope you find some inspiration to get creative in your own life.”
The City of Delta Artists exhibition replaces the “Contemporary Views of North Delta” installation in the centre’s Creative Corner Gallery. More feature art exhibitions are planned for the space later in the year.

Meanwhile, the Tsawwassen Arts Centre (1172 56th Street) is hosting a “Delta Community Landscapes” exhibit until the end of December.
For Culture Days in October, the city put out a call to resident artists — both budding and professional — inviting them to showcase in their preferred medium unique interpretations of Delta landscapes past, present or future.
“Inspiration can come from any type of landscape or from any timeline,” read the city’s call for submissions. “Let’s get creative and showcase our vibrant community in different art forms.”
The city received more than 50 submissions, which Cultural Services staff narrowed down to 10 before inviting the public to vote for their favourite.
Over 630 people cast their votes, ultimately awarding first place to Peter Scurr, second to Camryn Turnbull and third to Leah Terpsma.
Their work, along with the rest of the “top 10” landscapes, are on display now at the TAC before moving to the North Delta Centre for the Arts (11425 84th Avenue) in the new year.
