Delta police are asking Tsawwassen residents to check their cars and garages for missing property following the arrest of a break-and-enter suspect Monday morning (June 3).
Police say the community has experienced an increase in thefts from parked cars over the past week, including many where garage door openers were taken and then used to enter the garages.
At around 4:20 a.m. Monday morning, an alert resident reported suspicious activity at a neighbour’s home, namely an unknown man and woman removing property from a garage and putting it into a minivan.
Police say the van fled when officers arrived on scene.
A short time later, just before 6 a.m., police relocated the van and conducted a vehicle stop, arresting a 36-year-old White Rock woman for breaking and entering, theft, possession of stolen property, possession of break-in instruments, breach of a conditional sentence order, breach of release conditions, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and flight from police.
A press release notes the woman remains in custody and police are forwarding charge recommendations to Crown counsel.
“It is apparent from the property located in the van that more than one residence and/or vehicle had been targeted in this overnight crime spree,” reads a DPD press release.
“The Delta Police Department is asking Tsawwassen residents to check their cars and garages for any missing property that may have been stolen during the overnight period. There is a likelihood the DPD has recovered your property.”
Police say the man seen removing property from the garage was not in the van when it was stopped and has not yet been located.
A white Ford Escape was also stolen from the area at around the same time, and police believe it is likely how the man was able to leave the area undetected.
Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of theft in relation to this spree is asked to call the Delta Police Department at 604-940-7321 or email tips@deltapolice.ca.
“Officers will work to properly identify the recovered property and return it to the rightful owners,” the release states.
