The Rotary Club of North Delta, with support from its charitable foundation, contributed $32,675 to local community organizations and student bursaries during the year ending June 30, 2024, with the majority of those donations directed towards community groups in Delta and Surrey that serve local residents.

“Being able to give back and contribute to the well-being of the community through these various initiatives is not only beneficial to the recipients, it also gives our members a sense of fulfillment — a true win-win,” club president Jon Marks said in a press release.

This year's donations emphasized support for children and youth in North Delta. Among the key initiatives funded were a local scout group, an equestrian therapy society, a children’s summer literacy program, a program providing formal wear for graduating secondary school students, and summer programming designed for youth with disabilities in Delta.

Meanwhile, the North Delta Rotary Charitable Foundation awarded $12,000 in bursaries to graduating students from Delta Community College and the five North Delta secondary schools. Candidates were selected based on financial need and their contributions to community service, with half of the bursaries designated for students pursuing careers in the trades.

Additionally, North Delta Rotary allocated funding for several essential community services — including Meals on Wheels, Volunteer Cancer Drivers and the Christmas Hamper Program — to support vulnerable residents.

The club acknowledges the critical financial support it received from the Province of British Columbia, which has allowed local Rotarians to significantly enhance both their community outreach and the North Delta Starfish Pack program.

Run by local volunteers, the Starfish Pack program provided 1.25 tonnes of food weekly to over 260 families with children attending North Delta elementary schools, at a cost of $4,000 per week.

"The province’s generous support for these programs is deeply appreciated by all North Delta Rotary Club members," the club said in its press release.

Donations to the club’s Starfish Pack program are tax-deductible when made through the North Delta Rotary Charitable Foundation, online at portal.clubrunner.ca/1355/sitepage/north-delta-rotary-charitable-foundation.
