During the period from November 15th, 2023, to January 10th, 2024, a North Delta neighbourhood has been targeted by a series of six residential break-ins. Investigators have identified connections between four of these incidents, raising the possibility that a single suspect may be responsible for all six, or that the remaining two cases could be linked to a separate perpetrator.
According to an issued news release on Friday (Jan 12) the affected homes are situated east of Centre Street, west of Brooke Road, and between the Fraser River and 84th Avenue. The suspect(s) has been observed targeting homes during daytime and twilight hours.
Entry points have consistently been rear glass doors, which were either pried open or had the glass broken. The primary suspect is described as a male of South Asian descent, estimated to be between 30 and 50 years old. He is often seen wearing a baseball cap and a mask or partial face covering. Authorities suspect a silver or grey mid-sized sedan may be associated with the suspect.
Law enforcement is actively investigating, and residents in the targeted neighborhood can anticipate an increased police presence. Officers will be conducting door-to-door visits to seek witnesses or surveillance footage. Collaborating with partners from the Integrated Forensic Identification team and other police agencies facing similar cases, authorities are dedicated to resolving this crime spree.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, such as individuals loitering in parked cars for extended periods, someone canvassing door-to-door and appearing to identify unoccupied homes, or the sound of breaking glass. In case of emergencies, dial 911; for non-emergencies, contact the police at (604) 946-4411.
