The North Delta Reporter reached out to all the local candidates in the B.C. provincial election with a questionnaire allowing them to introduce themselves to voters. Candidates were all given the same questions, word counts and deadlines.
Below are the responses as received, with questions in bold, followed by candidate answers in their own words.
Here are the responses we received for the candidates in Delta North (listed in alphabetical order).
CANDIDATE: Nick Dickinson-Wilde, B.C. Green Party
WHERE DO YOU LIVE?: East Sooke
ONE-SENTENCE BIO: Nick is highly community involved, a father, husband, and professionally a web developer and open-source software engineer. Nick is also a certified karate judge and practitioner.
WHY SHOULD YOU BE ELECTED?: I would provide an actually independent voice for Delta North. Despite not living in Delta at this time, unlike other major parties the BC Greens are not whipped. An MLA’s job is to represent the community. Not the electorate, not the business community, not any specific special interest groups, not their party if they have one, not the people that voted for them, but the whole community. Sometimes personal views will not mesh — if you can agree 100% on all issues you are either hold no opinions of your own or don’t know each other well enough. At the end of the day an MLA should be finding the best way to merge the many opinions, concerns and views and represent the community in our halls of government. Whether you agreed with their votes, do you feel that past Liberal or NDP members have listened and represented you? Vote for me and I will be your representative and will listen to you — let me fight for a Delta North.
TOP 3 PRIORITY ISSUES:
1. Education (especially re tech)
2. Disaster preparedness/prevention
3. Safety (clean air, urban/wildland interface, drugs)

CANDIDATE NAME: Ravi Kahlon, B.C. NDP
WHERE DO YOU LIVE? Delta North
ONE-SENTENCE BIO: An ND resident for 20 years, and your MLA since 2017. Served as both Minister of Jobs and of Housing. A double Olympian for Team Canada, inducted in the Delta Sports Hall of Fame.
WHY SHOULD YOU BE ELECTED? I’ve lived in North Delta for 20 years, and have worked hard to represent our community as your MLA since 2017. My family and friends live here. As the only candidate from a major party that lives in North Delta I understand what is important to our neighbours, and what priorities our community wants to focus on. I was there when we needed the ND track replaced, when students needed new and accessible playgrounds, when seniors needed a safe outdoor space to congregate, and for the many constituents who have relied on my office for support and guidance. I know people in North Delta are concerned about health care, and anxious about affordability. The B.C. NDP government will continue to invest in hospitals and healthcare workers, and take further steps to tackle the cost of living crisis. I would be honoured to represent North Delta for another term, and promise to continue to serve and support our community in the legislature.
TOP 3 PRIORITY ISSUES:
1. Healthcare
2. Affordability
3. Expansion of parks and facilities

WHERE DO YOU LIVE? North Delta
ONE-SENTENCE BIO: Individual who understand the true meaning of diversity, having being born in Dubai and lived in UK and now raising a family in Delta.
WHY SHOULD YOU BE ELECTED? Committed to defending individual freedoms, including children’s right to an education free from indoctrination, the right to affordable housing, and the need to lower taxes.
TOP 3 PRIORITY ISSUES:
1. Kids education (no to SOGI123)
2. Giving jobs back to people which were lost during COVID-19
3. Affordable housing

CANDIDATE NAME: Raj Veauli, Conservative Party of B.C.
WHERE DO YOU LIVE? Proud Canadian living in Green Timbers, soon relocating to Delta.
ONE-SENTENCE BIO: A dedicated community advocate, I am committed to improving public safety, healthcare, and education, while reducing financial burdens on North Delta families.
WHY SHOULD YOU BE ELECTED? I’m running for MLA because North Delta deserves leadership that listens and acts. For years, community concerns have been overlooked, and Deltans have lost faith in NDP leadership. As General Manager at Staples Delta (North), I’ve worked closely with local businesses and residents, gaining firsthand knowledge of the challenges we face. Rising costs and lack of support have pushed many out of our community, which drives me to act. With over 20 years of working experience in N Delta and a deep commitment to public service, I’m ready to tackle critical issues like healthcare, housing, and public safety. Together, we can rebuild trust.
TOP 3 PRIORITY ISSUES:
1. Public safety: 2,300 overdose deaths; I’ll prioritize safety.
2. Healthcare: I’ll double Delta Hospital emergency beds.
3. Education: 300 portables; I’ll provide classrooms.
