Justin Bos, 39, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for homicides in South Surrey and Langley but this was reduced to 19 after the court factored in a "totality principle" designed to make global sentences not too excessive. He was also convicted of manufacturing restricted firearms. The sentences are concurrent and, with credit for time already served, it works out to 15 more years in jail for Bos.
Bos has been convicted of manslaughter for killing Troy Regnier, 37, on Aug. 27, 2022 and Cody Mostat, 30, on March 25, 2022.
In Regnier's case, Surrey Mounties were called to the 16600-block of 19 Avenue at 10:58 p.m. to find he'd been shot multiple times.
On March 25, 2022, at 8:49 p.m., Langley Mounties found Mostat unconscious in the 20400-block of 88 Avenue and tried to save him but he died at the scene.
Bos was arrested on Sept. 21, 2022 and charged with second-degree murder in both cases but was sentenced on June 6 in B.C. Supreme Court on the lesser included charges of manslaughter – 13 years for the Mostat shooting and six years for killing Regnier.
He was also sentenced to six years for manufacturing guns.
“This outcome reflects the diligent work of our investigators and partners,” said Sgt. Freda Fong, a spokeswoman for the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. “While these investigations began separately, it was our strong partnerships that facilitated advancing both investigations. IHIT would like to extend our thoughts to the families of Mr. Mostat and Mr. Regnier. We hope that the conclusion of the court process provides them closure.”
