On Thursday, March 6 at Harris Barn in Ladner, Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation is hosting the inaugural Power of Women in Philanthropy luncheon, a special event timed to mark International Women’s Day (held annually on March 8).

The event will feature keynote speaker Tamara Taggart, Dr. Navdeep Grewal from Delta Hospital, and a special presentation of the first-ever Leadership in Philanthropy Award to Kristy Storey of the Delta Firefighters Charitable Society.

A community leader, activist, veteran broadcaster, cancer survivor and mother, Taggart has spent two decades volunteering, advocating and raising much-needed funds for many important causes, contributing thousands of hours and serving as a director of several non-profit organizations, according to a bio posted on the event's website.

She currently hosts the podcast Telus Talks with Tamara Taggart from her home studio and is the volunteer president of Down Syndrome BC.

Creator and co-host of the award-winning Avaaz (Voice) health podcast, Grewal is an experienced emergency medicine physician with a long-standing commitment to improving health-care access, particularly in underserved communities, her bio states.

Grewal combines clinical excellence with a passion for advocacy and education, working to promote equity and inclusion within health-care systems. Through her volunteer initiatives, media outreach, and teaching, she continues to be a leader in her field, fostering positive change in both her community and across Canada.

“This event will honour the incredible contributions women have made to health care and community well-being in Delta and will bring together over 120 influential community leaders for an afternoon of thought-provoking conversation and celebration,“ DHCHF executive director Lisa Hoglund said in a press release.
