Delta resident Shelagh Clegg says she was in complete shock after learning she had won $1 million in the Aug. 20 Lotto Max draw.

Shelagh Clegg was in complete shock after learning she had won $1 million in a recent Lotto Max draw.

Clegg bought her ticket for the Aug. 20 draw at Thrifty Foods in Tsawwassen, and after checking it (and re-checking it) using the BCLC Lotto! app, felt compelled to make a return trip to the store just to double check that the win was real.

“I was at home, and I was in disbelief,” Clegg recalled. “I had to count all the zeroes. I had thought it was $100,000, then I had to scan again [with the app]. Then I went to the Thrifty’s, just to be sure.”

The Delta resident said she was excited to share the news first with her close friend.

“She was and is just so excited for me,” Clegg said in a BCLC press release.

Clegg said she felt blessed as the win will allow her to retire with financial stability.

"That is just a massive gift," she said.

Clegg plans to put some of her winnings into savings, but also intends to treat herself to a “little present” and new car.
