Delt Photo Club is hosting a Zoom-based workshop, "Mindful Approach to Flower Photography," on Wednesday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m., led by Jana Zachariou.

The Delta Photo Club invites photographers of all levels to explore new techniques and expand their photographic appreciation at the group's latest online workshop.

Just in time for late spring, the club continues its series of Zoom-based workshops with "Mindful Approach to Flower Photography" on Wednesday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m. The session will be led by Jana Zachariou, a Czech-born photographer living in southern British Columbia.

Zachariou chose to call Canada her home after living in various locations around the world, eventually settling on the West Coast — a move that marked the true beginning of her endless love affair with a camera.

"Photography opened a door to an aberrant way of seeing and appreciating the world around her," reads a description on the club's website.

"Jana’s ability to capture inspiring imagery came about, in part, because of the abundance of natural scenery that surrounds her on the West Coast. The visual drama and artistry of her photographs are born from a keen eye for the many moods of the natural world."

Her knowledge of photography is entirely self-taught, and this informal training enabled Zachariou to develop a unique style that makes her images very recognizable.

Initially, Zachariou focused on landscapes, but in the past couple of years she has shifted her focus and successfully created a niche for herself in the photographic world of flowers.

"Rather than focusing on the technicalities involved in taking a photo, she explores photography with a mindfulness approach," the website states.

"She loves creating and experimenting with textures in post-processing to make them come alive with an added layer of depth. Jana’s hope is that when viewed, her dreamy floral images evoke a sense of emotion."

To attend next month's workshop, interested parties can either become a member of the Delta Photo Club by filling out the membership form at deltaphotoclub.com/member-sign-up-form (cost is $60/year for individuals, $90 for families and $35 for youth and students), or register to attend as a guest by sending an e-transfer of $10 to treasurer_membership@deltaphotoclub.com by noon on May 7 (please include your name, email address and club affiliation with your transfer).

Made up of photography enthusiasts of all skill levels, the Delta Photo Club is dedicated to improving photography and the photographic art in its various forms in North Delta, Ladner, Tsawwassen, Surrey, Point Roberts and beyond. The club meets weekly on Wednesday evenings (7:30 to 9:30 p.m.) September through May, and holds workshops once a month in addition to outings and other events.
