All three of Delta's Extreme weather response (EWR) shelters will be welcoming guests tonight and through this weekend.
On Friday (March 21), the Homelessness Services Association of BC extended its extreme weather response alert for Delta due low overnight temperatures and rainfall accumulation.
Environment Canada is forecasting mainly cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers or thunderstorms this evening, with 20 km/h winds from the southeast switching to 20 km/h from the northwest around midnight and an overnight low of 4 C.
Rain is espected both Saturday and Sunday nights, with overnight lows of 7 C and 8 C, respetively.
Based on the current forecast, shelters in North Delta and Ladner will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights (March 21, 22 and 23).
The EWR shelter located at New Hope Church in North Delta (11838 88th Ave.) provides refuge for up to 15 adults (ages 19 and over).
Run by Lookout Housing and Health Society, the shelter is open nightly from 9 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., with intake ongoing until the site is full.
Guests will be provided light refreshments during their stay, and offered bus tickets and gift cards when they leave.
The site is also pet friendly — though animals must be on a leash or in a kennel while in the building — and can accommodate couples.
The building is not wheelchair accessible, however, and does not offer showers, laundry facilities or cart storage onsite.

A women-only shelter at North Delta's Crossroads United Church (7655 Scott Rd.) will be open Friday and Saturday night, also from 9 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.
The shelter provides 10 inclusive spaces for self-identified women aged 19 and over — enter through north door down the driveway at the back of the building.
The site is wheelchair accessible and pet friendly (in a kennel while in the building), however there is no cart storage, showers or onsite laundry facilities.
Guests will be provided light refreshments during their stay, and offered bus tickets and gift cards when they leave.

The South Delta EWR shelter at Ladner United Church (4960 48th Ave.) is open from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., has room for up to nine guests and can accommodate couples.
The site, which is operated by Options Community Services and funded by BC Housing, offers showers and laundry facilities, and is also pet friendly, though animals must be on a leash or in a kennel while in the building.
Guests will also be offered light refreshments, as well as bus tickets and gift cards when they leave.
The building is not wheelchair accessible, however, and does not offer cart storage onsite.
