For 16 years and counting, loved ones of those no longer with us have seeded more than just plants in South Surrey's Spirit Garden.
An event to bring all those individuals and any others interested together is returning to Spirit Garden, organized by founders Joan and Jon Mara. Held on or around June Solstice annually, this year it actually falls right on the day, Saturday, June 21.
The garden, located at 2860 140 St. in Surrey, the space is filled with plants planted by individuals who want to honour their loved ones who are no longer around. For many, the beautified space has served as part of the grieving process.
"As the long evening turns to dusk over a hundred candles begin to sparkle throughout the garden," Joan said of the Solstice Stroll.
"This is an evening for anyone to come walk through the garden and take in this beautiful site."
Tea candles will also be provided by the Mara's for any garden visitor to find a spot and light a candle there for anyone on their mind that night.
While held annually, there are new features to take in this year, including the Wisteria Trellis on Faerie Tale Lane and a crescent moon sculpture near the entryway.
Long favourites are still around as well, like the many succulent displays, the serenity bench, the 'Nod to Stonehenge' sculpture and more.
Visitors are also welcome to bring a blanket and find a seat on the Saturday night, at 8 p.m. ot later, to watch the garden light up.
