$865K in grants to 22 Delta sports organizations

Twenty-two Delta-based non-profit sports organizations are receiving a total of $865,900 in provincial community gaming grant funding.

Almost two dozen Delta sports organizations are receiving a total of $865,900 in provincial grant funding.

On Friday (July 12), the province announced the latest round of community gaming grants, providing more than $14.5 million to not-for-profit to 323 not-for-profit sport groups.

The funds are part of the $25 million in community gaming grants the government is distributing to 736 organizations delivering sports programs or services that improve the quality of life in their communities.

In Delta, 22 groups are receiving funding to help people across a range of ages and abilities participate in sport, including North Delta Football Club ($92,200), North Delta Minor Hockey Association ($75,000), Delta United Soccer Club ($78,000) and South Delta Minor Hockey Association ($119,000).

“Local sports organizations like the North Delta Football Club connect our community and encourage a healthy lifestyle,” Delta North MLA Ravi Kahlon said in a press release. “This funding will continue to support the great opportunities for people of all ages in Delta to get involved in sports and have fun.”

North Delta-based groups receiving funding include North Delta Football Association ($17,000), British Columbia Ball Hockey Association ($40,000), Delta Minor Ball Hockey Association ($30,000), Delta Ringette Association ($24,500), Delta Sungod Swim Club ($42,000), North Delta Sunfish Summer Swim Club ($30,000), Delta Thistle Curling Club ($11,200) and Sungod Skating Club ($64,000).

South Delta-based groups getting grants include Delta Islanders Junior Lacrosse Club ($20,000), Ladner Minor Baseball Association ($25,000), Delta Fastpitch Association ($35,000), Delta Skating Club ($52,000), British Columbia Weightlifting Association ($15,000), Delta Deas Rowing Club ($15,000), Tunnel Town Curling Club ($25,000), Boundary Bay Bluebacks Swim Club ($30,000), South Delta Rams Football Club ($6,000) and Winskill Dolphin Swim Club ($20,000).
