A water pump station built in Whalley in 1961, which services the city centre, Guildford and Fleetwood, is due for upgrades and generator replacements and was the subject of a more than $6.5 million contract city council approved on Monday.
The City of Surrey's engineering recommended that council award a $6,586,278.74 contract to Industra Construction Corp. to complete the work, with the spending limit set at $7,245,000.
The work will begin in February, is to be completed by March 2026, and will be done between 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
"The construction package related to this contract consists of replacement of pumps, piping, electrical, instrumentation and standby generator equipment which will improve the reliability and safety of the Whalley Water Pump Station," Scott Neuman, Surrey's general manager of engineering, indicated in a corporate report before council.
The station is located in the 14600-block of 105A Avenue.
