• Jana Seale, Aug. 15, 7 p.m. at Diefenbaker Park, 5579 1st Ave., Tsawwassen. Captivating audiences from around the world with her unique, gentle style, West Coast acoustic guitarist/vocalist Jana Seale was a featured full-time guest artist on luxury cruise lines from 2006-2014. Jana’s warm, dynamic delivery returns to the roots of the solo performer, reminiscent of Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez and the coffeehouses of times gone by. Part of the City of Delta's 2024 Concerts in the Park series. Note: the event will be cancelled in inclement weather.

• Norden the Magician: Aug. 16, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at George Mackie Library, 8440 112th St.; Hosted by Fraser Valley Regional Library. ABRA-CA-CURIOUS! Come and see a world of curiosities at your library with Norden the Magician! Join us for amazing magic and hilarious comedy. Part of FVRL's Summer Reading Club; learn more at fvrl.bc.ca/summer_reading_clubs.

• Outdoor Movie Night: Aug. 16, 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Memorial Park, 5010 47th Ave. Join the City of Delta for a free outdoor showing of the 2006 version of Charlotte's Web. Prior to the film will be family-friendly activities, games, and an outdoor Concert in the Park from the Karmichaels. Popcorn will be available. Concert and activities start at 7, while the movie starts at dusk. Note: the event will be cancelled in inclement weather.

• Karmichaels: Aug. 16, 7 p.m. at Memorial Park, 5010 47th Ave., Ladner. Along with their own original songs, this rock-folk-country group performs an eclectic mix of music that includes country-rock, country, soft rock and Celtic folk, to name a few genres. This group’s musical style is reminiscent of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and The Mavericks, often referred to as "Americana." Part of the City of Delta's 2024 Concerts in the Park series, and taking place before Outdoor Movie Night at the park. Note: the event will be cancelled in inclement weather.

• Delta Pride Picnic: Aug. 18, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Memorial Park, 5010 47th Ave., Ladner. The Delta Pride Society's annual Delta Pride Picnic began as a grassroots initiative to fill a gap of diversity celebration and representation in Delta. Every year we see the picnic grow a little more into a larger, even more joyous family-friendly event. Bring your sunscreen, hat and picnic chairs, pick up lunch at one of the delicious food trucks, and enjoy live performances (tips are welcome!), games, activities, vendors, resource and community partner tents, and chilling in a welcoming and diverse space. • Ranj Singh: Aug. 18, 2 p.m. at North Delta Social Heart Plaza, 11415 84th Ave. Ranjit “Ranj” Singh makes music with a distinct Indian-Western flair that draws on the singer-songwriter and self-taught guitarist’s love for rock music and heartfelt lyrics. He refers to his unique blend of music as “Indo-Canadian folk.” Part of the City of Delta's 2024 Concerts in the Park series. Note: the event will be cancelled in inclement weather.

• Tweens Black Out Poetry: Aug. 19, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at George Mackie Library, 8440 112th St.; Hosted by Fraser Valley Regional Library. Unlock your poetic potential and let your creativity shine, as you explore blackout poetry. You'll transform existing texts into works of art and find hidden gems within the words. Using blackout poetry you will craft unique poems that are entirely your own. For kids 10-13 years old.

COMMUNITY EVENTS 

• Luminary Festival: Sept. 7, 6 p.m. to 10 pm. at Sunstone Park, 10400 Delsom Cres., North Delta. The Luminary Festival is a special, sparkling, end-of-summer event! Illuminate yourself with costume and lights, and create a lantern to light the way. Join the City of Delta at this free annual community festival for an evening of magical light displays, entertainment, lantern making, food vendors and interactive activities. Though there is no parking on site, free parking and shuttle service will run between North Delta Recreation Centre and Sunstone Park starting at 6 p.m. The bus will have room for walkers, wheelchairs and scooters, and be equipped with an automatic lift. • Run for Delta: Sept. 22, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the North Delta Track & Field Facility, 11496 83rd Ave. Let's lace up our sneakers and hit the pavement for a fun run in support of two remarkable organizations: Delta Hospital & Community Health Foundation, and the Surrey Food Bank (which also serves North Delta). Come join us for a fun 1K walk or 3K run —whether you're a seasoned runner or just looking for a casual jog, this event is perfect for all levels. Enjoy the fresh air, meet new friends, and challenge yourself to reach new goals. Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to run for a great cause in the heart of North Delta! The Run for Delta is organized by Mercy4Mankind (M4M) volunteers, whose initiatives include charitable runs across the country, blood donation drives, food drives, and refugee resettlement programs. MUSIC

• Halifax Wharf Rats: Aug. 23, 7 p.m. at Elliott Street Wharf, 5000 Elliott St., Ladner. This North Delta-based band of high energy tunes features a wide array of the most popular classic rock tunes, Canadian folk classics from the likes of Neil Young, Stan Rogers, Gordon Lightfoot and Stompin’ Tom Connors, plus songs of Atlantic Canada and Irish and Scottish folk and pub tunes. From Johnny Cash to Eagles and The Beatles, The Pogues, Steve Earle, Van Morrison and so much more, Halifax Wharf Rats are perfect for when you want some fun music to sing along and dance to for hours. • Luc LeMans: Aug. 30, 7 p.m. at North Delta Community Park, 11311 84th Ave. Luc LeMans is taking classic grooves back to the dance floor! His original tunes draw on the best musical styles you know and love: '50s rock and roll, '60s soul, '70s disco and '80s synth-pop. You can hear it all when you tune your dial to “Luc LeMans.” Part of the City of Delta's 2024 Concerts in the Park series. Note: the event will be cancelled in inclement weather.

• Delta Ukulele Circle: First Saturday of the month (Sept. 7), 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.; North Delta Centre for the Arts, 11425 84th Ave.; Led by Gary Cyr, the Delta Ukulele Circle is an enthusiastic, welcoming and supportive crowd of music lovers with an appreciation for the ukulele. This tiny instrument provides a unique opportunity for individuals wanting to play and enjoy music together with others in a very social setting. Admission is $5. • PWRUP – AC/DC Tribute Band: Sept. 21, 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at North Delta Centre for the Arts, 11425 84th Ave. Kick off the City of Delta's Fall Music Series with an electrifying night of music in North Delta. PWRUP is a Canadian tribute act dedicated to embodying the rock n’ roll prowess of AC/DC. Since 2019, the group’s curation of an authentic live music performance has transported their fans to AC/DC’s live sound of the 70s and 80s. PWRUP caters to AC/DC fans by providing a variety of the band’s earliest to most recent hits. Vocalist John Kairis bounces between the charismatic stylings of Bon Scott and the gut grinding power of Brian Johnson. Lead guitarist Colin Wielenga produces an electrifying experience for fans as Angus Young. Bassist Tom Roche, rhythm guitarist Tim Wielenga and drummer Jake Von Egmond ground PWRUP in a solid and unwavering rhythm section. MOVIE NIGHT

• Movie Night in the Park: Aug. 24, 7 p.m. at North Delta Track, 11496 83rd Ave. Back by popular demand, MLA Ravi Kahlon is excited to host another outdoor summer movie night. Bring your chairs and your blankets and join us for a special screening of Shrek — free popcorn provided!

• Outdoor Movie Night: Aug. 30, 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at North Delta Community Park, 11311 84th Ave. Join the City of Delta for a free outdoor showing of the 20242 film If. Prior to the film will be family-friendly activities, games, and an outdoor Concert in the Park from Luc Lemans! Popcorn will be available. Concert and activities start at 7, while the movie starts at dusk. Note: the event will be cancelled in inclement weather.

ENVIRONMENT

• Ready, Set, Pull!: Sept. 7 at Mackie Park in North Delta, Oct. 5 at Forest Bay Park Reserve in Tsawwassen, and Oct. 19 at Ladner Harbour Park, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Delta is inviting everyone who lives, works or plays in our city to volunteer for our Community Weed Pull events. Amazing progress has been made and we hope to continue the trend. Why is ivy being removed? Check out the video "Invasive Species - English Ivy" on YouTube. Snacks, gloves, equipment, and training will be provided, so even if you have never done a weed pull before, you are more than welcome to come! Community weed pulls are an awesome way for you to learn about our natural ecosystems and take an active role in their protection. • Bat Talk & Walk (Tsawwassen): Sept. 17, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Tsawwassen Library and Boundary Bay Regional Park. Bats are very important animals that are feared and misunderstood by many. Come out for a night of adventure. The night will start with a presentation at Tsawwassen Library (6-7 p.m.) discussing general facts about bats, bat habitat, where the best locations are to watch bats at night, how to minimize a bat encounter if you have bats feeding or roosting on your property, and ways to support and help local bat populations. This presentation will be followed by a stroll through Boundary Bay Regional Park (7:30-8:30 p.m.; park at 12th Avenue/Beach Grove Road lot) where you will be able to watch and hear bats in their natural habitat. During the walk, we will discuss echolocation and how to safely watch bats. Come out for an extraordinary night of bat education and fun. Please wear close toed shoes, pants and long sleeves for the walk. HOBBIES/CRAFTS 

• Knit ‘n’ Stitch: Fridays, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at George Mackie Library, 8440 112th St.; Hosted by Fraser Valley Regional Library. Pack up your needles and yarn and head to the library! Knitting, crocheting, quilting and weaving are fun ways to connect across the generations. Join members of all ages and abilities to share ideas, techniques, and good conversation.

WRITING

• Writers’ Circles: First Wednesday of the month (Sept. 4), 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the George Mackie Library; First Sunday of the month (Sept. 1), 12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. at Douglas J Husband Discovery Centre. Delta Literary Arts Society hosts these supportive gatherings for writers of all levels with prompts, optional sharing and time for socializing led by caring and creative facilitators Angela Rebrec (Ladner dates) and Anna Eastland (North Delta dates). Sponsored by the City of Delta and Fraser Valley Regional Library.

SENIORS

• Senior Saturdays: Weekly from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at George Mackie Library, 8440 112th St. Fraser Valley Regional Library encourages seniors to drop by the the George Mackie for a cup of tea and some conversation every Saturday.

BOOK CLUBS

• Tuesday Evening Book Club: second Tuesday of the month (Sept. 10), 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.; George Mackie Library, 8440 112th St.; Join us to discuss books in a casual setting. New members are welcome. Books are provided. 

HEALTH/WELLNESS 

• Yin Yoga: Every Monday, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Deltassist, 9097 120th St.; The main goal of Yin Yoga is to open joints, stretch deep tissue and release deep, long held emotion. In Yin Yoga we learn how to better listen to our bodies, by allowing ourselves to slow down enough to listen to the clues from the unconscious mind of what is actually going on we learn everything we need to know. Note: You will want to have a few pillows (couch, bed or throw pillows will work fine), as well as a blanket or two to ensure you are nice and comfy as well as fully supported for your practice. • Restorative Yoga: Every Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Deltassist, 9097 120th St.; Restorative Yoga is designed to provide support and help the body relax. Often referred to as active relaxation we learn to fully support our physical bodies in order to allow for a gentle opening and softening in to relaxation. • Hatha Yoga, Breath & Mindfulness Meditation: Every Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; Deltassist, 9097 120th St.; Whether you’re seeking stress relief, improved flexibility, or simply a moment of tranquility in your busy day and life, these classes will provide a nurturing space for you to unwind and connect with yourself from a space of kindness and compassion.
