Editor,

re: Prime Minister Mark Carney hits the ice with Edmonton Oilers, March 20th

Demands made to Mark Carney by Alberta premier Danielle Smith are really far out. She opposes any policies that would lessen our impact on the earth’s environment.

She said “our province is no longer agreeable to subsidizing other large provinces ..." Canada recently spent two billion dollars to seal old wells in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

She said “I made it clear that federal mismanagement of Jasper and Banff national parks resulted in last year’s tragic wildfire in Jasper ...”

The mayor of Jasper has said that if it were not for the excellent forest management by Parks Canada, that the town of Jasper could have been destroyed entirely. He talked about how they let many fires burn, and also light controlled burns to prevent excess build-up of fuel.

Many of her complaints and demands should not be taken seriously.
