After the City of Surrey agreed to partner with a city-based soccer club to lease part of a local park, that club has now released images of what their new facility could look like.
The agreement—between the city and Surrey United Soccer Club (SUSC)—could run three decades and includes the construction of a covered training facility on city land.
“This facility will provide much needed space for athletes and community members of all ages,” said Ali Wilkinson, SUSC president. “It will bring Surrey United, as a not-for-profit organization, the ability to keep the costs of participation low.”
The recent agreement between the soccer club and the city will allow the indoor training facility to move forward and to accommodate its planning, building, operation, and maintenance.
Located in Cloverdale Athletic Park, the new covered training pitch will be built across 1/2 of the current gravel, all-weather field there. The facility’s parking lot will be built overtop the grass football field that runs parallel to 64th Avenue, just east of the bike park.
“We are very honoured that the City of Surrey has chosen Surrey United SC to partner with them and lead this exciting project,” said Jeff Clarke, sporting director for Surrey United. “The facility will be an iconic landmark in Surrey and will assist in strengthening the city’s reputation of having some of the nicest parks, indoor rec centres, and outdoor athletic parks in the country.”
SUSC is based in Cloverdale and has thousands of members. A few years ago, the club gave just under $225,000 to help build the red fieldhouse at CAP on the corner of 64th and 168th.
Construction on the covered training facility will begin this summer and is expected to be completed by the summer of 2026.
