It's in fashion to be as sustainable as possible, and what better way than through fashion?
The Self-Advocates of Semiahmoo are thrilled to announce the return of their highly anticipated 'New to You' clothing sale in South Surrey, an event that blends community support with sustainable fashion, an SAS release said.
A popular annual initiative that offers quality clothing at affordable prices, the sale also channels all proceeds into projects that enhance accessibility and inclusivity within the community. SAS, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering positive change through community collaboration, is supported by UNITI, and focuses on promoting accessibility and inclusion at local, provincial, and national levels.
A cornerstone of the SAS event is the partnership with Christina Marcano, founder of Silver Icing, the release noted. Recognizing the importance of community engagement, Marcano donates clothing items ranging from slight imperfections to overstock to the sale.
“Silver Icing is built on the power of community, and we’re incredibly grateful for the support we receive. It’s only natural for us to give back by supporting community-driven programs like the SAS 'New to You' Clothing Sale," she said in the release.
"Seeing these contributions make a real difference in accessibility and inclusion is something we’re very proud to be part of."
SAS is also deeply grateful for the generous donations of clothing from members of the community. Each year, those involved at SAS are amazed by the high quality of clothing that individuals choose to donate.
Donations are now being accepted for the sale through June 20, with the sale set for Saturday, June 28.
Unlike other organizations that sell clothing by weight, SAS ensures that all donated clothing is sold directly through the SAS New to You Clothing Sale, allowing community members to see their donations make a meaningful impact, the release continued. These contributions not only support the sale itself, but also fund projects that help individuals with developmental disabilities showcase their abilities and actively contribute to the broader community.
SAS co-chair Jeevan Basra noted how grateful the organization is for everyone who comes together to make the sale happen.
"Silver Icing's support, along with the generosity of our community, has been important in our efforts to fund projects that enhance accessibility and inclusivity," Basra said.
Funds raised from previous clothing sales have been pivotal in supporting community initiatives including White Rock's All Abilities Playground, the White Rock beach mat, which enhances accessibility for individuals with mobility challenges, local beach wheelchairs and more.
In the current economic climate, where Canadians are exercising caution in their spending, initiatives like the SAS 'New to You' Clothing Sale offer a dual benefit: providing affordable fashion choices and supporting local causes, the release concluded.
Donations are being accepted Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until June 20 at 15306 24 Ave., Surrey, also the location of the sale.
The New to You clothing sale happens from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 28.
