Surrey council voted June 10, 2024 to purchase 15266 21B Ave. for use as parkland.

A plan to create a new park in the Semiahmoo Town Centre moved one step closer to fruition this month, with Surrey council's support for the purchase of a rectangular lot in the 15200-block of 21B Avenue.

Following a recommendation by staff, council on June 10 voted unanimously in favour of purchasing the 660.6-square-metre (0.163 acre) parcel.

Located at 15266 21B Ave., the lot is the second acquisition of 10 planned to create a new outdoor recreation space in the neighbourhood. According to a corporate report, it's eyed to serve surrounding apartment and commercial land uses in the northeast section of 152 Street and 20 Avenue.

The property is designated as park/open space in the Semiahmoo Town Centre Plan. The report notes the site is zoned single-family residential, and without the park designation, its highest and best use is as a holding property for future townhouses.
