A new, covered lacrosse box is on its way to South Surrey.

A new spot for lacrosse players to hone their skills is on its way to South Surrey.

Part of the City of Surrey's more than $44.9-million plan to upgrade and enhance outdoor sports facilities throughout the city, the new, covered sports box will provide a new all-season outdoor amenity for multiple sports groups, including box lacrosse, ball hockey, and more.

To be located at South Surrey Athletic Park at the south end of the site, between the parking lot adjacent to Semiahmoo Secondary School and Field 3, the covered box will provide weather protection on a high-quality sport court, the city says on its website.

Currently, design submissions for the project are under review, the city's website notes.

"The city is intending to bring forward a report for council consideration in April to award a contract for the detailed design and construction of this new amenity," an emailed statement attributed to the city's Parks, Recreation and Culture department said.

"Should council approve the contract award, the city expects construction to get underway later in Q2 2025."

Having the new amenity is news that has been lauded by local sports organizations, including Semiahmoo Lacrosse, as a useful and much-needed addition to the community.
