The Museum of Surrey will welcome the Year of the Snake next month.
The museum is set to host a Lunar New Year celebration on Saturday, Feb. 8, with a short, three-hour festival running from 1 - 4 p.m.
“In partnership with Chinese Village Club, this free event offers an excellent opportunity to learn more about Lunar New Year as well as the Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese cultures,” reads a post on the museum’s web page.
The festival will feature an array of live performances. This will include dragon dance teaching, poetry performances, traditional and modern dance, tai chi performances, storytelling and more. The museum will also set up several areas for activities.
Chinese Village Club is a not-for-profit group whose mission is to “connect and work together with people from different cultural backgrounds to actively build bridges for community development.”
The museum is inviting all Surrey and area residents to come out to the museum Feb. 8 to share in the cultural celebration and tradition of Lunar New Year.
The museum is also looking for sponsors for the event as it relies on grants, corporate sponsors, and donations to host events at their heritage campus in Cloverdale.
“We invite your organization to partner with us and be part of this cultural celebration,” the post concludes. “Whether through sponsorship, grants, or in-kind contributions, your support helps us bring this beloved event to life.”
