Holy Cross and Fraser Heights school teams were division winners at the 23rd Surrey Firefighters’ Senior Girls Goodwill Classic on Saturday (Jan. 11) at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary.
Twenty-three teams competed in the all-Surrey tournament, which featured a great week of basketball and hard-fought battles for the championships in the two divisions.
Holy Cross beat Tweedsmuir 79-70 for the Axe division crown, while Fraser Heights topped Sullivan Heights 42-29 for the Ladder championship.
Since 2001, Surrey firefighters have hosted, organized and supported the Goodwill Classic every January. Girls teams from across Surrey compete in the week-long tournament, which concluded Saturday with a three-point contest and two division final games.
The energy, passion, and sportsmanship from all the teams made this tournament truly unforgettable," raved a post on Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society's Facebook page.
"A huge thank-you to everyone who made this event possible — especially our dedicated off-duty Surrey firefighters and dispatchers who volunteered countless hours to host and support the tournament all week long. Your hard work and commitment made this event a success."
