Harness racing returned to Fraser Downs last week.
The four month fall race season for horses, drivers, and horsemen will began Sept. 12 at the Cloverdale 5/8 oval. Each week will see two race nights held at the track, both Thursday and Friday, with the last races of the fall meet running Boxing Day and Dec. 27.
Dawn Lupul, manager of racing and communications for B.C. Racebook, said her organization has been focusing on creating a more desirable environment for bettors.
“We are excited to have the harness action back at Fraser,” Lupul said in press release from B.C. Racebook. “More and more horseplayers are starting to take notice, and it’s showing up in the wagering. We have been focusing on creating better value for the players and they are responding.”
Wagering has been up for harness racing in Cloverdale. Lupul noted the races are now being broadcast in HD live on YouTube and that has helped to increase the handle, as bettors across the continent can follow the races.
According to the release, the HD broadcasts make “the races available on almost any device anywhere.”
The release also noted, "The fall meet will showcase a competitive wagering profile that offers more value to horseplayers than ever before.”
Post times on Thursdays and Fridays for the fall season are 7 p.m.
