More than 500 people took part in the Cloverdale Community Kitchen's Coldest Night of the Year fundraising event Feb. 22.

They may not have achieved their goal, but they raised more cash than last year.

The Cloverdale Community Kitchen (CCK) raised just over $235,000 during its Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) fundraising event Feb. 22.

The donations put Cloverdale in second place for amount raised for any location in Canada. After a two-month fundraising campaign, the Kitchen raised 84 per cent of its $280,000 fundraising goal. The White Rock / South Surrey location came in third in Canada after raising more than $221,000. Surrey CNOY locations together raised more than $500,000 as the Surrey-Newton event raised $14, 538, the Surrey-Whalley North event raised $27,365, and the Surrey-Whalley South event raised $5,690.

Donations from Cloverdalians and from those in surrounding communities in 2025 raised $3K more than last year, but didn’t quite hit 2023's high water mark of $274,000.

"We are deeply grateful to the Cloverdale community for your generous support which landed us in 2nd place in the country for fundraising (out of over 200 locations)," CCK organizers noted in a post on their Facebook page. "Thank you for believing in what we do, and joining with us to make a difference in so many lives."

The Kitchen thanked all who "braved" the weather to walk thought Cloverdale on Saturday night and the many volunteers who helped make the night run smoothly.

"The rain stopped just in time for the walk to begin and we were gifted a beautiful sunset to end the evening."

There were 523 walkers participating on 77 teams, with more than 60 volunteers.

The top three money-raising teams for the Surrey-Cloverdale CNOY were: Linda Wing’s 20-member “Hopeful Wanderers” with $19,763, Jen Temple’s four-member “Hillcrest Village / Gary and Gail Grelish Foundation” team with $17,151, and Courtney van den Boogaard's 17-member "Heart & Sole" team with $12,550.

Canada-wide, all locations broke the overall goal of $14 million, raising $700,000 more than last year, with all participants together raising just over $14.2 million.

The in-person Cloverdale walk began and ended at the Community Kitchen. Walkers were able to register, turn in results of their fundraising efforts, and return at the end of the evening to celebrate their achievements.

Participants walked either a two kilometre or five kilometre route. There were also rest stops set up throughout the town where fundraisers could warm up with hot drinks.

This is the Community Kitchen’s 12th year taking part in Coldest Night. The Kitchen has been serving the Cloverdale area for more than 10 years and the funds raised will benefit those in need in Cloverdale, Langley, White Rock, and Surrey.
