A tribute band billed as “the most honest and sincere re-creation” of Roy Orbison’s music is coming to Surrey the week before Valentine’s Day.
The Lonely will play “Only The Lonely,” “Crying,” “Oh, Pretty Woman” and other hits during a set at Surrey Arts Centre on Friday, Feb. 8. The concert is promoted by White Rock-based Rock.It Boy Entertainment.
The Mike Demers-fronted band is filling 700-seat theatres across Canada, company boss Rob Warwick told the Now-Leader. “We also drew 3,500 at this years TD Concerts at the Pier” in White Rock last summer, he added.
In addition to songs sung by the “Big O,” the gig in Surrey will include numbers by The Traveling Wilburys and Everly Brothers.

Dec. 6 marked the 20th anniversary of Orbison’s death, of a heart attack at age 52, in 1988.
He was “unmistakable with his trademark sunglasses, his distinctive, powerful voice, his complex compositions and the dark emotional ballads we all love,” according to a Rock.It Boy concert announcement.
“His impassioned voice, bridging the gap between baritone and tenor, coupled with his signature arrangements, ensured the charting of” many hits, which included “Dream Baby,” “Ooby Dooby,” “Blue Angel,” “Blue Bayou,” “You Got It” and “In Dreams.”
