Simon Challenger directs a cast of six in Renovations for Six, a fast-paced comedy produced in Surrey by Naked Stage Readers Theatre.

Script readings are booked at Newton Cultural Centre this weekend — on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. (Feb. 21-22), also a matinee 2 p.m. Sunday.

Renovations For Six, among the newest plays by prolific Canadian Norm Foster, finds Shayna and Grant hosting a dinner party to make new friends. Cultures clash when the two other couples reveal their home-renovation woes.

"There’s nothing like the stress involved in house renovations to put pressure on relationships, especially if there are cracks in the foundation," Challenger says.

"Enjoy this hilarious look at what happens when the facades we all put up to each other begin to crumble and our true selves are seen."

As with all Naked Stage company shows, the readings of Renovations for Six won't have movement, extensive lighting, sound systems or props, and the stage will be bare except for actors seated on stools and music stands for their scripts.

For this one, the actors are Henry Bartak, Terry Ford, Jim Harrison, Sarah Hosta, Kirby Lavik and Joyce Gillespie. Look for their bios on nspsociety.com/upcoming-shows, where tickets are sold (also at the "black box" theatre, 13530 72 Ave., Surrey).

Meantime, on March 15 Naked Stage will audition actors for its next production, Murderers, by Jeffrey Hatcher and directed by Bridget Browning, for stagings from April 25-27. Roles include Gerald Halverson (dapper man in his late 30s, early 40s), Lucy Stickler (pert, adorable housewife in her 70s) and Minka Lupino (very pleasant woman in her 40s). For details, contact producer Kelly Thompson, kellyinva@gmail.com

Script synopsis: "Three comic monologues about revenge, blackmail, sex, money, jealousy, justice and murder. Performed separately, the tales depict desperate passions, old wounds and cold calculations that intersect in the sun-drenched world of The Riddle Key Luxury Retirement Village in Florida. Each story is a cat-and-mouse mystery featuring culprits who tell how they decided to commit the perfect crime and what tripped them up along the way."
