A festival celebrating Métis culture returns to Cloverdale.
The Museum of Surrey is putting on “Métis: Children of the Fur Trade.” The annual event will run from 12-4 p.m. on Saturday, April 12.
“This event is a testament to the enduring pride and contributions of the Métis people,” said Anthony Krilow, vice president of the Surrey Delta Métis Association. “(Métis) stories and heritage are an integral part of our shared journey."
The museum runs the event in partnership with the Surrey Delta Métis Association. The two invite the public down to take in stories and performances about unique Métis heritage.
“There is a vibrant Métis population living in the City of Surrey,” said Lynn Saffery, museum Manager. “Museum staff and volunteers love hosting this annual event, where visitors can learn about the rich heritage of the Métis people in interesting and interactive ways.”
All visitors will be able to enjoy a variety of activities. There will be performances from V'ni Dansi. Museum-goers will be able to listen to live music, create crafts, and shop at vendor booths. There will also be a selection of food available and other goods that “reflect” Métis craftsmanship and heritage.
Some of the participating vendors include: Kimoowun Beads, Spirit Glow, Tradish, Sandra’s Métis Creations, and Nicimos Designs.
Entrance is free. To find out more info, contact the museum at 604-592-6956, or museum@surrey.ca, or visit surrey.ca/museum.
