• Delta Child and Youth Committee Youth Advisory Group: Application deadline: March 31; The Delta Child and Youth Committee is committed to bringing together a group of youth-serving organizations and advocates to address the needs of youth in the community. The goal is to identify what services and supports are needed, and this cannot be done without the input of the young people we wish to serve. The Youth Advisory Group is a unique opportunity to offer your input and help guide the work being done. Applicants must be between 13-19 years of age and able to commit to five two-hour meetings April-July. Interested youth must fill out the online application, available at deltasd.bc.ca/news-events/news/youth-advisory-group, by March 31; only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
• George Mackie Library Teen Advisory Group: First Thursday of the month (April 6), 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; George Mackie Library, 8440 112th St.; Teen Advisory Group (TAG) is for students between the ages of 13-19. TAG members help staff develop teen oriented programs and assist at the bigger library events. They will also act as a library representative in North Delta’s teen community. The monthly meetings are a time to socialize and plan. Membership is a resume booster and helps earn volunteer hours. All teens in North Delta are welcome. Refreshments are served. • OWL Open House: May 6-7, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society, 3800 72nd St.; Join OWL for our largest fundraiser. We will have educational bird of prey talks, a raptor release each day at 1 p.m., and bird of prey meet-and-greets. Enjoy a meal from various food trucks and visit with guest exhibitors. Take a walk through our Wildlife Museum to learn about habitats and threats to wildlife then buy yourself a little something from our gift shop, and don’t forget to stop by the kids zone fun and games for all! In an attempt to regulate water consumption, Urinetown has outlawed the use of private toilets. The citizenry must use public, pay-per-use amenities owned and operated by Urine Good Company, a malevolent corporation run by the corrupt Caldwell B. Cladwell. • 2023 Delta Literary Arts Society Poetry Contest: Submission deadline March 26; The 2023 DLAS Poetry Contest is open! • Killer Verse: A Night of Literary Terror 2023: Submission deadline April 15; Creepy. Crawly. Unsettling. Unnerving. Terrifying. Macabre. Dark. Twisted. Fun, right? We think so too! The Delta Literary Arts Society wants you to bring us your best scary poems and stories meant for an adult audience — ghost stories, zombies, werewolves, vampires and other Halloween treats. Killer Verse is an annual performance event in Delta where we bring dark and twisted stories to life on stage with costumed actors and thrilling narrators. This year’s event will be fittingly on Friday, Oct. 13th. Each piece is limited to about three minutes on stage so your work must be no more than three pages long. Longer pieces will not be considered, nor will any that involve bigotry or abuse. We strongly encourage BIPOC, women and people of all wonderful identities to participate. Compensation details: $25 for poetry, $50 for short stories.
