Norden and Gordon are two of B.C.’s top children’s magicians and have over 40 magic awards to show for it. • SRC Artist Visit — Elaine Chen: Aug. 17, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.; via Zoom; Hosted by Fraser Valley Regional Library. Inspired by the idea of community and togetherness, join picture book illustrator Elaine Chen for an hour long virtual workshop where the kids ages 7 to 12 will be invited to observe the world around them through shapes and, most importantly, have fun drawing together. Chen is a Vancouver-based painter, illustrator and video game artist. Her family immigrated to Canada in 2001, where she fell in love with Canadian summers and grew up in the Toronto area. She completed her degree in animation at Sheridan College and has so far illustrated three picture books: My Day with Gong Gong by Sennah Lee; Amelia, The Not-So Small Superhero by Stephanie Lecce; and This is Pomi by Mitchel P. WRITING/POETRY

An opportunity for local authors across the Fraser Valley to share their poetry with the FVRL community. Each poet will be given up to five minutes to read a poem of their choosing with the group. • Choir Day Camp and Workshops: July 18-24; various times; St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church, 11601 82nd Ave.; For kids ages 8-18, this is a day camp but with lots of singing, fellowship and fun from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For adults, there are choral workshops July 19 and 21 at 7 p.m. and July 23 at 10 a.m. Both kids and adults will be trained by guest conductor Murray Walker, director of music at Calvary Episcopal Church in Santa Cruz, Calif. A native of Vancouver, Walker holds music degrees in choral conducting from the University of British Columbia and California State University and is retired from a 40-year career as a music educator, most recently at the York School in Monterey. Both kids and adults will sing during Sunday service the morning of July 24. Choir camp is open to everyone whether they are church members or not — no choir experience necessary.
