• A Conversation with Mayor George V. Harvie: Feb. 18, 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.; KinVillage Community Centre main hall, 5430 10th Ave., Tsawwassen; ElderCollege Delta presents a conversation with Delta Mayor George V. Harvie. This is a free event open to the public. Mayor Harvie will begin by talking about the progress the city has made over the last four years and share with us what he and council would like to accomplish in the coming term. • George Mackie Library Teen Advisory Group: First Thursday of the month (April. 6; no meeting in March), 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; George Mackie Library, 8440 112th St.; Teen Advisory Group (TAG) is for students between the ages of 13-19. TAG members help staff develop teen oriented programs and assist at the bigger library events. They will also act as a library representative in North Delta’s teen community. The monthly meetings are a time to socialize and plan. Membership is a resume booster and helps earn volunteer hours. All teens in North Delta are welcome. Refreshments are served. • Brent Butt: March 3, 7:30 p.m.; Genesis Theatre, 5005 45th Ave., Ladner; One of Canada’s funniest and most recognizable comedians, Butt has performed at the world’s most prestigious comedy festivals, toured internationally, and created and starred in two successful sitcoms (Corner Gas and Hiccups, plus the former’s animated spin-off) and two theatrical comedies (No Clue and Corner Gas: The Movie). Butt also hosts the aptly-named podcast The Buttpod, which kicked off its long-awaited second season in October with guest TV legend Tom Bergeron. Each evening will feature two authors reading and talking about their work followed by a Q&A session. This month’s event features Kyle McKillop — a poet and teacher with a master’s in creative writing whose work has appeared in CV2, Quarandreams, Sustenance and “What I Will Do For Attention” — and Jude Neale, an opera singer, mentor, educator, workshop organizer and facilitator who has written 10 collections of poetry and won the League of Canadian Poet’s Pat Lowther Award. • Punjabi Pioneers in Delta: First 50 Years from 1900-1950: Feb. 25, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.; George Mackie Library, 8440 112th St.; The North Delta Advisory Committee of Delta Heritage Society presents a talk on Punjabi Pioneers in Delta: First 50 Years, from 1900-1950. The presentation will start with the historical background of Punjabi Sikhs in India and their migration to Canada, then focus on the life of Punjabi Sikhs in Delta. Between 1903 and 1908, a total of 5,179 Punjabi Sikhs arrived in Vancouver and Victoria. However, little is known as to how, why or when Punjabi Sikhs moved to the municipality of Delta. After the presentation, the audience will be encouraged to participate in discussion on the subject.
