• George Mackie Library Teen Advisory Group: First Thursday of the month (March 2), 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; George Mackie Library, 8440 112th St.; Teen Advisory Group (TAG) is for students between the ages of 13-19. TAG members help staff develop teen oriented programs and assist at the bigger library events. They will also act as a library representative in North Delta’s teen community. The monthly meetings are a time to socialize and plan. Membership is a resume booster and helps earn volunteer hours. All teens in North Delta are welcome. Refreshments are served. • OWL Open House: May 6-7, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society, 3800 72nd St.; Join OWL for our largest fundraiser. We will have educational bird of prey talks, a raptor release each day at 1 p.m., and bird of prey meet-and-greets. Enjoy a meal from various food trucks and visit with guest exhibitors. Take a walk through our Wildlife Museum to learn about habitats and threats to wildlife then buy yourself a little something from our gift shop, and don’t forget to stop by the kids zone fun and games for all! • Brent Butt: March 3, 7:30 p.m.; Genesis Theatre, 5005 45th Ave., Ladner; One of Canada’s funniest and most recognizable comedians, Butt has performed at the world’s most prestigious comedy festivals, toured internationally, and created and starred in two successful sitcoms (Corner Gas and Hiccups, plus the former’s animated spin-off) and two theatrical comedies (No Clue and Corner Gas: The Movie). Butt also hosts the aptly-named podcast The Buttpod, which kicked off its long-awaited second season in October with guest TV legend Tom Bergeron. • ‘Into The Woods’: Feb. 27 to March 4; Burnsview Secondary, 7658 112th St.; Burnsview Secondary’s Musical Theatre class is producing Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods from Feb. 27 until March 4. There will be eight shows over six days, and it’s going to be a very unique experience, one where the audience will be invited “into the woods” with the actors and be seated on the stage in a very intimate setting — where no one is ever more than three rows or 10 feet away from the performers. This show embraces the connection that live theatre offers, an experience where the actors and audience are together in a space, responding to one another and sharing laughter, tears and catharsis with one another in a meaningful way. • ‘Murder for Two’ Open Casting Call: March 1 and 8, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.; North Delta Centre for the Arts, 11425 84th Ave.; The City of Delta is holding a pair of open auditions for Murder for Two, an exciting new musical that promises hilarity while paying homage to old-fashioned murder mysteries. The play is the city’s first in-house production and will be mounted at the North Delta Centre for the Arts later this spring. Sungod Skating Club’s 2023 ice show is a journey not to be missed, and we are excited to welcome you into the arena once again after the pandemic halted the club’s bi-annual ice show, which has been in existence since 1973. Skaters from preschool to our senior elite skaters will surely wow both the young and young at heart. • Punjabi Pioneers in Delta: First 50 Years from 1900-1950: Feb. 25, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.; George Mackie Library, 8440 112th St.; The North Delta Advisory Committee of Delta Heritage Society presents a talk on Punjabi Pioneers in Delta: First 50 Years, from 1900-1950. The presentation will start with the historical background of Punjabi Sikhs in India and their migration to Canada, then focus on the life of Punjabi Sikhs in Delta. Between 1903 and 1908, a total of 5,179 Punjabi Sikhs arrived in Vancouver and Victoria. However, little is known as to how, why or when Punjabi Sikhs moved to the municipality of Delta. After the presentation, the audience will be encouraged to participate in discussion on the subject.
