• B.C. Opioid Crisis — Response, Safety & Resources: March 1, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.; via Zoom; Hosted by Fraser Valley Regional Library. This 60-minute workshop presented in partnership with Seniors First BC provides information about the ongoing B.C. opioid emergency, including what opioids are, overdose causes, and how to identify an overdose. • North Delta Rotary Club Shred-A-Thon: March 5, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Sunshine Hills Safeway parking lot, 6401 Scott Road; The North Delta Rotary Club, together with local Realtor Leah Bach, are pleased to host another Shred-A-Thon event on Saturday, March 5. It will be held at the southeast corner of the Safeway parking lot at Scott Road and 64th Avenue.

• 2022 Delta Youth Leadership Conference: April 26, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Seaquam Secondary, 11584 Lyon Rd.; Hosted by the Delta Police Department and Delta School District. Attention Delta students! Come join us in a day of incredible learning at the 3rd Annual Delta Youth Leadership Conference. We have a full day lined up with some incredible speakers in the morning — award-winning entrepreneur and author Kendal Netmaker; DJ Baron S, the first female DJ for the Vancouver Canucks; and bestselling author, personal development coach and Champion UP founder Adrian Starks — followed by breakout sessions in the afternoon. • Delta School District Kindergarten Registration: Feb. 14-20; online; Kindergarten registration for the 2022/23 school year runs Feb. 14-20. As a result of the pandemic, the registration process will be online again this year. Detailed instructions on how to register will be posted on the district’s website (deltasd.bc.ca/schools/student-registration/kindergarten) in early February. Please note: Schools will not accept registration documents in person. The Delta School District offers a wide range of learning options for all students, including traditional schools, French immersion, international baccalaureate, Montessori and Home Quest.

• Free Online Parent Workshop — Preparing for Kindergarten: March 3 and 8, 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; via Zoom; Presented by the Delta School District’s Learning Services Branch. Explore the skills and abilities that will help your child have a successful start to school, and learn strategies to make the transition as smooth as possible. Join us for a discussion of the documentary film The Woman Who Loves Giraffes, available free to library card holders via Kanopy. This film looks at the world’s first “giraffeologist,” Anne Innis Dagg, by retracing her original steps and with letters and 16mm film footage from 1956. Dagg is said to be the first in the world to study animal behaviour in the wild on the continent of South Africa. Her early journey and struggles with the landscape and the field of zoology are revealed, juxtaposed with a present-day look at the devastating reality that giraffes are facing today. • From Safety to Self-Compassion: Thursdays, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Deltassist, North Delta office, 9097 120th St.; This group is for women who are survivors of childhood sexual abuse. The group will create a safe environment for you to give voice to your story and feel validated. You will be encouraged to create your own internal and external safety. The group will cover topics like establishing boundaries, consolidating a sense of self, reflecting on the journey and cultivating a future from here on. Please note that this is an in-person group and Deltassist is taking all necessary precautionary measures to ensure everyone’s safety to minimize the transmission of COVID-19. • Anger Management Group: Thursdays, Feb. 10 to April 28, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; via Zoom; Deltassist is offering a new anger management group for anyone 19 years and older. This group will teach participants the skills of effective communication, problem-solving, listening, conflict resolution, impulse control, stress management and coping strategies in relationships that may or may not contain abuse.
