Deltassist has volunteer opportunities available, both from home and out in the community.

The organization has several opportunities right now or coming up soon for residents to step up and help out their neighbours. Current and future volunteer opportunities are listed at deltassist.com/help-out/volunteer.

All volunteers at Deltassist must be 19 or older, pass a criminal record check, sign an oath of confidentiality, and have three references the organization can check. Volunteer drivers must also have a clear drivers abstract.

Volunteer opportunities available include:

• Grocery order-taking volunteers: On a weekly basis, volunteers take grocery orders from registered Deltassist shop clients over the phone.

• Volunteer shoppers: On a weekly basis, volunteers shop for seniors that cannot get out to shop for themselves. This is a fun team setting type of volunteer opportunity.

• Volunteer drivers: Volunteers drive seniors that do not have any other means of transportation to medical appointments. Volunteer drivers are reimbursed for mileage.

• Volunteer gardeners: Growing season will soon be here and Deltassist is looking for volunteers to help out in its community garden. The garden is in the parking lot of Deltassist’s North Delta office, located at 9097 Scott Road. This garden produces fruit, vegetables and berries which are given away to those in need. No gardening experience is necessary as there are several very experienced volunteers that will show you the way.

• Food security volunteers: Deltassist, in partnership with Real Canadian Superstore in North Delta, will be running an additional food security produce program to supplement the community garden program and is looking for volunteers to pick up produce from the store and to sort and package the produce at the North Delta office. This will be a weekly program.

Anyone interested in volunteering as an order-taker, shopper or driver is asked to contact our Deltassist’s seniors program co-ordinator, Colleen Danes, at colleend@deltassist.com.

Anyone interested in volunteering to garden or help out with the food security program can contact office manager Kam Dhaliwal at kamd@deltassist.com.
