VIDEO: Gingerbread village competition benefits Surrey Christmas Bureau

Display set up until Dec. 16 at Central City mall

The Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association’s Gingerbread Village competition is back.

The association is hosting the competition at Central City mall near Winners. There are more than 50 entrants this year, including students, non-profits and businesses.

There are also eight categories: elementary schools, high schools, universities/colleges, charities/non-profits, service/community groups, professional/post-secondary culinary programs, businesses and open.

The winners in each category will be selected by a panel of community judges. All entries are eligible for the $500 People’s Choice Award. Everyone who visits the display can vote for their favourite entry with a cash donation.

Following the end of the display, the entry that receives the most donations will win the People’s Choice Award.

People can head to Central City mall until Dec. 16 to vote for the People’s Choice for $1. All proceeds will be donated to the Surrey Christmas Bureau.

Lisa Werring, Surrey Christmas Bureau executive director, previously told the Now-Leader expected to register more than 2,000 families this year.
