Fall brings change to two Surrey-area charities.
Lisa Werring has left Surrey Christmas Bureau to take the executive director job with SurreyCares Community Foundation.
A Guildford-area resident, Werring was with the Christmas Bureau since August 2017 and helped lead the organization through the difficult COVID pandemic years.
"The Christmas Bureau will forever hold a special place in my heart, and the past seven years have been an absolute joy and I will miss all of the wonderful volunteers, families and donors," Werring told the Now-Leader.
On Monday (Sept. 23), Karmin Dhindsa began her new job as co-ordinator of the Christmas Bureau as the organization gears up for the holiday season ahead.
With SurreyCares Community Foundation, Werring will work to help the not-for-profit charitable organization provide funding, financial administration and research for the community. The foundation's mission is "to build a healthy and resilient community by engaging donors and funding charities," says a webpost. "We believe in the power of philanthropy to create positive change and improve the lives of those in need."
Werring said it's a privilege to work with SurreyCares to deliver its vision to the community.
“I want to thank the board of SurreyCares for this opportunity, as well as the Surrey Christmas Bureau board for their support over the past seven years," she said in a news release. "It is truly an honour to be able to help SurreyCares continue to increase its capacity to support vital local organizations like the Bureau and so many others that do the amazing work that makes our city the best place in B.C. to live, work, learn and grow.”
Meantime, Surrey Christmas Bureau will hold a 2024 Annual General Meeting on Oct. 10, according to a post on christmasbureau.com, where updates will be shared about the location and opening dates of the organization's 2024 Toy Depot in Surrey.
Elsewhere in Surrey, the board of Mackie’s Place has announced Tresha Iype as new executive director, effective Oct. 1, replacing charity founder Bobbi-Rhea Mackie, who announced her departure from the organization in June.
"Tresha comes to us with two decades of experience in the non-profit and public sectors," said Kimberly Franklin, chair of the Mackie's Place board. "She is excited to bring her skills, experience and energy to the excellent foundation established by Bobbi-Rhea Mackie and the entire Mackie’s Place team."
