Ride2Survive cyclists wheeled into Delta at 11 p.m. on June 24 for the 13th annual ride to support cancer research.
About 110 cyclists left Kelowna at 3 a.m. that morning and pedalled their way along B.C.’s highways en route to the finish line in North Delta.
Vice-president and former rider Vicki Kunzli said it was “amazing.”
“We were on time in arriving at every stop and leaving every stop,” she said. The more than 30-degree weather, although difficult, was an improvement from last year’s torrential downpour.
“The team rode strong, rode together, rode in perfection.”

In total, the event raised more than $600,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.
On race day, the donation amount was at $583,000. On Tuesday morning, it was at $629,000.
“Fighting cancer doesn’t stop,” Kunzli said about the continuing donations.
Kunzli doesn’t know what project this year’s donations will go towards, but the organization has traditionally support research in underfunded or difficult cancers, including pancreatic, lung, brain and ovarian cancer.

After 13 years on the road, Kunzli expects the annual ride to continue.
But “wouldn’t it be great to continue doing it and then be able to just ride our bikes for fun knowing that those who are diagnosed with cancer have a very good survival rate,” she said.
