Mayor Brenda Locke at Surrey Fusion Festival in Holland Park in Surrey in July 2024.

High Tea with Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke will celebrate International Women’s Day while raising funds for SurreyCares Community Foundation.

Single tickets are $150 for the afternoon event Friday, March 7 at Civic Hotel, or $1,400 for a table of 10.

The plan is to "celebrate women who inspire, lead and empower our community," with event emcee Keri Adams (CTV news anchor) and guest speakers Indra Bhan (Surrey Board of Trade), Janet Brown (former journalist, now with Surrey Urban Mission) and Seema Tripathi (UNITI).

Also promised is live entertainment by a string trio with Surrey City Orchestra, "a special surprise performance," a silent auction and more. Tickets are sold online, surreycares.org/events.

Net proceeds support SurreyCares community grants, which have funded more than 300 Surrey charities over the past 30 years.

Lisa Werring, executive director, calls SurreyCares "the charity for charities" in Surrey.

"We are proud of our work connecting funders and the not-for-profit organizations that deliver a wide array of programs and services to support poverty reduction and social inclusion in our city,” said Werring, previously with Surrey Christmas Bureau.

“We are thrilled to have four inspirational women (share) their powerful journeys as we celebrate International Women’s Day."

Locke says International Women’s Day is about "honouring the trailblazers who inspire us with their courage, determination and generosity of spirit. As we gather to celebrate the extraordinary women of Surrey, let us acknowledge the strength and resilience that each of us brings to our communities. We must continue lift each other up, support one another's aspirations, and strive for a Surrey that is inclusive and equitable — a city where everyone matters."

Event sponsorship opportunities are available (email lisa@surreycares.org).
