More people than have every been inside the Darvonda Nurseries in Milner packed into the 103,000-square-foot greenhouse on Glover Road Thursday night for the kickoff to Glow.

It’s more than a Christmas market, it’s a holiday event, explained co-creator Tamara Jansen.

“”We’re having the biggest Christmas party that Langley has ever seen,” she said, inviting people to experience it up until Dec. 30.

The concept for Glow began to come to fruition six months ago, and since then the greenhouse has been transformed into a giant event centre, complete with entertainment stage, a place to visit with Santa, 40-plus vendors, a 210-foot light tunnel, and numerous light displays including a icicle cave.

Some of the lights are from China, several of the local light display pieces are from Richmond, and the artificial turf is from BC Place’s former stadium, said Daryl Driegen, a member of the operations team.

“They were wanting to get rid of some of it, so we thought what a perfect opportunity for us,” Driegen said, pointing to the acres of turf that covered almost ever inch of the greenhouse floor.
