Grandview Heights Secondary’s class of 2023 donned their gowns and moved their mortarboard tassels from right to left, Monday – the first class from the city’s newest high school to do so.

Grandview Heights opened on September 7, 2021 welcoming about 1,100 students. It was the first new high school to open in the South Surrey community in nearly 30 years – since Elgin Park opened in 1993.

“As the Principal of Surrey’s newest secondary school, I am so proud of the remarkable achievements of our first ever graduating class at Grandview Heights Secondary,” said principal Darren Bedard.

“This is a group of individuals who have exemplified strength, determination, and resilience throughout their short time.

“Unlike any other graduating class this year, we have to remember that this group only came together over the past two years, and it was not easy for them to move schools halfway through their high school journey.”

Although the school first opened in 2021-22 school year, it was for students in Grades 8-11 until this year.

Now, Grandview is bidding a farewell to its first Grade 12 class of 260 students, with the ceremony held on June 5. Now, having crossed the stage, the students will go on to study for their dream careers, head straight into the workforce, take a gap year or pause and reflect on what comes next.

“Our Grizzly graduates have formed bonds, forged friendships, and fostered a sense of family among their peers and staff,” Bedard said.

“Together, they have created a tapestry of shared experiences and memories that will last a lifetime. Congratulations, Grizzlies! May your roar be heard far and wide.”
