Christmas is over and it’s time to get rid of that dried-out tree.

The Delta Scottsdale Lions Club is holding its annual Christmas tree chip this weekend in the parking lot of Sungod Arena.

The service — which is provided by donation — is one of the club’s biggest fundraisers, with all proceeds donated back into the community by way of scholarships, food hampers, dry grads, community dinners, help for families in need, donations to the food bank and more.

This year’s tree chip takes place this Saturday, Jan. 4 and Sunday, Jan. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 7815 112 St., North Delta.

Other Delta Lions clubs will also be hosting tree chips this weekend, at Memorial Park in Ladner (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and at the South Delta Recreation Centre in Tsawwassen (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

Trees, as well as other yard trimmings, can also be dropped off for free at the Enviro-Smart Organics composting facility (4295 72nd St., Ladner). For hours of operation, call 604-946-0201.

And if you can’t make it to one of the chipping events or the composting facility, trees can also be left curbside on garbage day and collection crews will pick them up — just be sure to cut larger trees in half so they’re easier to handle.
