It’s been four years since Bill and Jenn Haggerty opened Elevated Music in Cloverdale.

Over the years, the Haggertys have enjoyed much success. The store was able to find its feet as it opened at the height of COVID, Bill won a Clovie Award for Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2021, they moved locations in 2023, and now Bill is releasing a single in 2024.

He said he is nothing but thankful as he and Jenn reflect on the past few years ahead of Elevated’s four-year anniversary.

“We are blown away at the entire journey,” Bill told the Cloverdale Reporter. “It has been an absolute dream come true to be doing anything music related and making a living. It’s just a real joy and a labour of true love that we do not take for granted.”

Many businesses were smacked pretty hard over the past few years with COVID-related problems, rampant inflation, and skyrocketing rents. Yet Elevated has managed to navigate some of these once-in-a-lifetime problems.

Bill said just being himself has helped to create loyal customers that respect Elevated and come back to support them.

“I feel the biggest factor is my authenticity and my commitment to living a life of music that I have nurtured from my childhood,” he added. “That relentless commitment and authenticity, people see that, and what I feel is the energy that attracts people to what we do.”

As for the store’s four-year milestone, Bill said they’re having an anniversary sale and celebration Aug. 10. The day will include a “huge collectible album drop,” 15 per cent off all records store wide, and several giveaways.

“It’s going to be an absolute blast,” Bill said. “The collectible album drop is an amazing stash of rare and collectible titles that we have gathered all year long and have available on the day.” He added vinyl fans do not want to miss it.

The special day will also feature the physical release of Elevated Music Recordings first vinyl 7-inch single.

“(It’s) music I have composed and written, credited as Elevated Music,” Bill explained. “There are two instrumentals on this release, no vocals.”

Bill played, recorded, arranged, and mixed all the elements for each track. He added the single is number 1 in a series of what will be an ongoing project.

He originally composed the two tracks as instrumentals for other artists to take and add in their own vocals. He created the tracks before he opened the store, but shelved them for the past several years while he’s been running the record shop.

“Now, as instrumentals—releasing them on our own label, giving them life as instrumentals—(it’s) a way to showcase what I do behind the scenes,” Bill explained.

He’s thrilled to be able to release his first physical single in time for the shop’s anniversary. And there are more in the pipe—instrumentals based on work he’s done previously to opening the store plus ones he's currently working on.

Bill said the plan for this particular series will be to release the singles in small runs of physical pressings. The releases will be available exclusively in store and not online.

“We have other projects we will bring to life on the Elevated Music label as well as other stuff I like, and believe in, that other people are doing,” Bill added. “Hard to say for sure how many and who and when, but we’re super excited for this next chapter.”

Looking back over four years, the Haggertys feel grateful for the “love and support” they’ve received from the music community.

“Everyone that has chosen to make your music memories with us and those who give us the chance to give their collections new homes, we can’t thank you enough,” Bill added.

Elevated has about 10,000 records on hand and can order in anything. The shop also buys and sells cassettes, records, and CDs.

Elevated Music is located at 5696 176th Street in Cloverdale. Visit elevatedmusic.ca for more info, or visit their Instagram page @elevatedmusicshop.
