CFL and NFL Canada donate $5,000 to North Surrey Minor Football

The local organization had their clubhouse torched by vandals on Nov. 18

After having their clubhouse burned in a suspected act of vandalism, North Surrey Minor Football (NSMF) finally received some good karma.

On Monday, the CFL and NFL Canada announced that together, they are donating $5,000 to the football organization’s GoFundMe Page.

The announcement comes after NSMF sent their flag football team to participate in the CFL NFL Flag Championship. The team flew out to Ottawa the day after the incident.

That North Surrey Tigers squad finished second in the tournament. After coming home last week, the CFL and NFL Canada decided to offer the donation along with prize donations for NSMF’s pub night this Friday at One20 Pub in Delta.

After the donation, the CFL is still urging fans to donate to NSMF’s cause.

“Words cannot express our gratitude to them for their generosity and support they’ve shown us,” said NSMF junior boys team manager Shar Jaggard.

She mentions that other football associations have shown generosity by offering supplies and equipment to the club. It’s allowed NSMF to keep playing games despite their recent losses.

“The amount of people who have reached out and ask how they can help has been overwhelming,” she said.

“Many alumni have donated to our GoFundMe Page and throughout this process, many people have shared memories about North Surrey Minor Football.”

The organization arrived at their clubhouse on Sunday, Nov. 19th to see that vandals had torched the building bad enough to burn a hole right through the roof.

It was the second time that vandals tried to damage the clubhouse. Surrey RCMP confirmed that individuals involved tried to light another fire outside of the clubhouse on Oct. 4th. That one didn’t cause any structural damage.

The fire from Nov. 18th left the long-standing clubhouse gutted, forcing the organization to move to a temporary rental space.

While insurance will cover the damage costs, the non-profit organization set of their GoFundMe Page to pay for moving, storage, security cameras and a temporary rental space.

Surrey RCMP confirmed that the incident is still under investigation.
