A group of talented young rowers – many of whom hail from Surrey – found success on the water last weekend on Vancouver Island, as Delta Deas Rowing Club’s junior team finished atop the podium at the Brentwood Regatta.

Held at Brentwood College School, the competition – one of the most prestigious junior regattas in the Pacific Northwest, according to a news release issued Monday – saw the Delta crew of Jon Hodgins, Stuart Velestuk, Peter Nederend, Logan Krezan and coxswain Genevieve Salahor win gold in the junior B 4X event, while Hodgins and Velestuk also picked up silver medals in the men’s double race.

The success of the team lead Delta Deas Rowing Club to a first-place finish in efficiency in the junior B category, while the entire Delta Deas contingent placed eighth overall – out of 32 clubs.

Next up for the junior rowers are competitions in Shawinigan Lake and at Delta’s own Scholastic Regatta, set for the end of May.
