VIDEO: Mounties probe same-day shootings in Clayton Heights

Residents reported hearing gunshots at 7 p.m. Tuesday night

RCMP are investigating two reported shootings in the Clayton area.

Neighbours said they heard shots fired from a vehicle around 7 p.m. tonight at 72 Avenue and 192 Street.

This incident came less than eight hours after an earlier shooting at the 7000-block of 180th St. Police believe that was a targeted shooting, and no one was injured.

Resident Sherry Cairns said she was in her basement suite when she heard sounds of gunshots.

“So around 7 we were all hanging out in my daughter’s room and we heard pop, pop pop,” she said. “And my husband and I just looked at each other and asked if that was gun shots. And I just said it can’t be. Sure enough a few minutes later we hear a bunch of sirens.”

Mathew Mosher was at Hazelgrove waterpark with his wife and two-year-old son, a few blocks away, when shots were fired Tuesday evening.

“Didn’t hear the shots,” Mosher said. “Someone came to the park screaming that shots were fired at the 7/11, only two blocks away, and we should leave the area. You could see the panic in [her] and other parents eyes [and] faces. We packed up immediately and rushed home.”

“We were, and continue to be, scared for the safety of our area.”

“I’ve lived in Clayton Heights for over 10 years and never had any [safety] concerns whatsoever,” said Mosher. “Clayton Heights is known for being family oriented.

“Now we’re left wondering what’s next? When and where is the next one?” he said.

At about 10:30 Tuesday night, police responded to third reports of gunshots – this time in the Fleetwood neighbourhood.
