A scary motor vehicle incident in Surrey yesterday cause police to shut down Kind George Boulevard for most of the afternoon.

Around 1:30 p.m., a grey Honda CRV swerved into a ditch filled with water on King George Boulevard off of 48th Avenue. A family of four was trapped in the vehicle until emergency crews arrived on scene.

All four family members were rescued and taken to hospital. The mother, who’s 42-years-old, was unconscious and not breathing when crews rescued her from the vehicle. She remains in critical condition.

The 49-year-old father, along with their 13-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son were also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police confirmed that the family was from Washington State.

Witnesses say that the Honda SUV swerved into the ditch after a motorcyclist completed a dangerous lane change. The driver of the motorcycle fled the scene, but he was later caught and detained by police. The police say that no charges have been laid yet.

According to police, there were about three to four good samaritans on scene who were very helpful to police in assisting with the situation.

The accident caused traffic delays all afternoon. Police were forced to shut down King George Boulevard southbound from Highway 10. Access from Colebrook Road was also blocked off. The road was reopened yesterday.
